Suggestions for music discovery? 2013-01-01 23:31:28

So, I'm ordering a pair of nice headphones but I don't listen to a whole lot of music because I get bored with the same stuff over and over.
I'm looking for a website or something that helps a lot with music discovery. I don't really have a particular genre I listen to. Most of the music I like dwells in the Rock region; although that's really not much of an indicator since so much shit is considered Rock.

TLDR: Amazing new music discovery websites. Not Pandora, plays the same shit constantly.

Go to the bands you might like on iTunes and listen to the previews on the songs.

Well starting with identifying genres and artists you especially like is a good start.

I don't think Yahoo would be too helpful.

Yeah that's the thing though. I like a lot of stuff. The only correlating genre is Rock...Like I enjoy Rise against, The Offspring, Lindsey Sterling, Goldfish, Parov Stelar, She, Soilwork, BuckCherry, The Prodigy, Superchick, and alot more just random and unrelated stuff.

Honestly, a lot of the music I love I find by watching movies.

Can't beat Last.fm radio. I've found tons of bands that way.

Surprisingly enough, YouTube has been getting better at providing good bands if you already have a few that are right up your alley. Through suggestions in comments and related videos, I've discovered The Contortionist, Intervals, Periphery, Between the Buried and Me, Animals as Leaders, etc. Basically I've found a bunch of great bands with only moderate publicity that all sound great.

If I offer to help you in a post, PM me to get it. I often forget to revisit threads.

If you use it right, Last.fm radio is hands down the best tool for discovering new music. Out of all the programs that shape the radio to better suit your tastes, Last.fm does it better.
