60 Frame Collab 5: 2012-10-15 13:43:22

Hello all you beautiful people. After speaking with Steak and Kidney, I will be launching another 60 frame collab. Hope we make it even better than the last!

Check out the 4th 60 Frame Collab

Anybody can join this collaboration but I am looking for animations where effort and time have been dedicated to produce quality parts.

If the quality is not up to standard then it will form part of the âEUoeextraâEU section. Focus is on quality not quantity. Rather than submitting lots of average animations, create one amazing piece. Its only 60 frames long...

Find your Style and Refine it...
Practice Practice Practice

I will be looking for at least 50 great animations

Help with designing and programming the menu

Then last of all, a perfect soundtrack :)

RULES

NO STICKS
NO SPRITES
NO PORN
NO PIXELS
NO EPILEPTIC CRAP
NO TEXT

Keep the effects a minimum or none (Glows/Blurs etc.)

Specs

Stage Size: 480 x 350
Fps: 20
Frames: 60
Time: 3 seconds
Actionscript: 2
Conversion: CS4
Deadline for parts: 30 June 2013
No later unless necessary

How to submit
Go to www.newgrounds.com/dump/submit
After it is submitted, post link here.

And when the collab comes to an end and you submit the final swf and fla file. Please place all symbols in the library into a folder and use your name as the title. And in the timeline please place all animation into a graphic or movie symbol sothat it will make it easier for me to combine all animated parts.

Constructive critism from fellow animators on improving the quality of the submissions; are appreciated.
I hope you enjoy being a part of this collab.
Zane de Villiers

I'm joining.

I would like to join the collab too :)

I'd like to contribute something to this, but I'd be working with cs6. Is it even possible to convert an fla. to an earlier version? Otherwise I could provide some music.

Response to 60 Frame Collab 5: 2012-10-15 23:43:38

So, 3 seconds per animation with no specific topic at all, right? I think I may try animating something on weekends.
And If I'm right, it will end up being some sort of fast paced musical animated clip.

A question, are the submissions restricted to one per collaborator or can there be more than one?

Yeah all new versions can access old files. the issues happen when someone with older edition tries to open a newer edition file. Which only seem to work within a couple editions of each other.

I'm joining this. How much entries do you accept?

Response to 60 Frame Collab 5: 2012-10-16 04:08:42

@nat29/Matija27: Welcome, give it your best

@houzatosis: As far as i know, you can't save it directly. Every flash version only allows saving to 1 version below itself. You could save it to CS5, then download a trial version of Flash CS5 or ask somebody with CS5, open the file and save it to CS4. Some feautures in CS6 wonâEUTMt be available in CS4. So we will make a plan to convert it. Im always looking for musicians, once I have the majority of the animations then IâEUTMll have a better idea on music tempo and genre.

@Mr-Shark: Yes I think you right, I think the problem occurs when opening a CS4 in Flash 8.

@Atzu: Yes no specific theme or topic, I didnâEUTMt want to limit creativity. But if people are struggling with a topic then try animate something with a âEUoePOST APOCALYPTICâEU Theme

If your first submission is of good quality then you can produce another and once that is of great quality you can produce another and so forthâEU¦

@Mownkey: I'm looking for atleast 50 great entries but there is no limit.

I dont know what happened there. Lets try again.

My first entry is FINISHED! Oh yeah, baby.
Now tell me: do you accept animator signatures in the corner of the screen?

Thats awesome, lets see it. I will be typing out and placing the animators names to keep them identical in style so that it doesn't distract from the animation. For anybody who has an animation and wants feedback post a link to SWF here.

Like This

Floor Bang 60 Frame

Something i have been working on over the last day. Its work in progress and far from finished, it will be frame by frame.
Let me know what you think

It's all meant to be done in a sketchy style and frame by frame.

This is a start, its not very clear of what he is doing, i see a person kicking a soccer ball. Maybe try adding details to:
-background like a goal, trees, people watching the soccer game or maybe some stands ; instead of just a line.
-clothes like a vest and shorts with soccer boots etc.
-facial feautures like when he kicks the ball and whatches the ball fly over his head
-Then lastly add colour to it
The concept still needs abit of work but keep working on it, practice makes perfect.

Hi,
First of all, let me introduce myself. I'm ShinsukeIto, but you can call me Shin :)

I just wanted to inform you that I'm very interested in working on this collaboration.
However, due to other priorities (SCHOOL) it may be a while until my part is completed.

Anyway, that's it. I will still try to keep an eye on what's happening on this forum topic, though.

I hope this collaboration goes well!

Glad to hear you will maybe get involved. Even drop some feedback on animations if you find the time.

@Shin: The holidays are coming up so I'm sure you will find some time to create beautiful pieces of motion but please do check in regularly for any updates.

Phew, I finished the coloring and adding details and stuff.

About that ball... it's just a regular ball, not a soccer ball lol.

I would consider joining. I think a consistent theme would be a good idea too

Writing songs for cigarettes and credit would be cool.

I think it looks pretty good, but I would recommend either taking out the outline and have it kind of a squiggle type animation or clean up the outline and make it look more clean.

According to one person on the chat this is horrible, I thought it was ok. But I think I'll just give up, I'm not good enough to animate a collab part yet.

Looks really good! Who was that person on chat?

The outline is meant to be like that, for a sketchy frame by frame kind of animation. I don't know what you mean by "squiggle type animation".

People that have joined the collab:
# nat29
# Matjija27
# Houzatosis
# Mr-Shark
# Atzu
# Mownkey
# Shinsukelto
# ForNoReason (Maybe)
# EASTBEAST (Considered)

After some contemplating, I have decide to shorten the deadline in order to get a bit of momentum.

NEW DEADLINE

30 JANUARY 2013

@EASTBEAST - a consistent theme would make for better viewing. But the collab has already been started and I would like to keep it consistent. Unless we can all agree and decide to use a specific theme. Do you have any suggestions on a theme?

@Mownkey - with regards to what ForNoReason said the double black outline is distracting, i understand you started off wanting to make it look sketchy on white but now with colour the lines don't work. So a recommendation is you completely take out the line which will look similar to the way you did the background or you could use the pencil or brush tool to do a new outline. The proportion of the ball should be bigger unless it is a tennis ball and when the ball lands shouldnâEUTMt it bounce instead of landing flat :}

@Mr-Shark - DonâEUTMt give up so easy :] There are two things that i noticed straight away. The slow dip of the birds at the end of the dance looks a bit weird and with regards to the eyes, the bird only seems to have one pupil instead of two. I can see you have used one symbol and repeated it over and over. So lets have a look at only one bird and get the dancing movements fluid and rectify anything else before you repeat the symbol. And looking at your background bring some more sky and maybe a few more of that nicely drawn tree that i see on the right.

Oh please have a bit mercy! It will take forever to re-do the lines! About that ball again: it's... um... just an ordinary, small, red ball. That's it. I agree with you saying the ball should bounce right away, but don't worry, I've fixed that.

Haha they were just suggestions for improvement. You want to improve... don't you?

With that in mind, I would like to quote an inspiring passage illuminating animation in a nutshell.
âEUoeIf you want success in animation, keep doing it until youâEUTMre tired of it, then do it some more. The thing that separates amateur from expert is experience and you can only gain experience by doing. The more you animate, the better youâEUTMll get, because improvement is an almost guaranteed side-effect of experience. Treat every mistake or bad drawing as a lesson learned, and in time your animation will reflect your level of commitment.âEU

So I found some free time in my day, and came up with a rough little concept of my part...

I just wanted to show that I will actually do something in this collaboration :P

I like it. The good old "Judo Chop."
The emphasis on weight is very lifelike and the timing is perfect. Keep up the good work :]
