I felt the need to up-vote or down-vote a post a few times because I got used to doing that on an alternative forum.
I think this feature will allow a person to scroll down through the thread which has quite a few replies coupled with rich walls of text and notice the note worthy ones which will actually be worth the time. On the other hand the ones which get too many down votes can be folded away ( much like on Youtube ) the report can automatically be sent to the mods currently online.
Both of the last two features mentioned have not been put in to practice on any forum as far as I am aware ( the reports/ fold features ) .

What do you guys think?

Forums are for discussion, if you like or dislike someone's post then you can just reply to it and tell them that. If you agree with something they said then you can just tell them.

This would be terrible. People would just be rating posts bad because they are butt hurt.

Newgrounds isn't mature enough to handle such a feature.

It doesn't really ADD anything though. Yeah I guess posts with more upvotes would grab your attention, but... well... read the damn thread and decide what's relevant and important to the discussion yourself. There's no reason to add such a feature, aside from "Other websites have it" which is no reason at all really.

It'll be abused and become fodder for arguments and bla bla bla. It won't be good and will cluster everything even more. This new stats look to our left is enough.

That site is both 1/100th the size of NG, and most of the forum base are a bunch of saccharine cocksuckers. Both the demographic and scale are not applicable to both forums, as far as ideas are concerned. It works on there, it wouldn't here. See most of this thread, most of the previous threads, and the entire review voting system we have here for further information.

The upvote downvote feature is not really that useful. Typically if you disagree with the OP even if you have a valid point expect it to be downvoted into oblivion.

It kinda feels like YouTube!

Too much potential for people to abuse the feature, so nah.

An interesting idea in theory. In other words it looks good on paper. However there is nothing really wrong with the Reply button. Although it would make with agreeing with someone else's post easier other than just a reply with I Agree. Although most people who agree will be able to put it in their own words as well.

But I think maybe you are talking about reputation though, which I've seen in some forum systems. I don't think this has anything to do with posts, but with the users. Which means that you can give someone a + or a - which you will see to the left for a post. I'm not sure what I think about that..

In any case, I don't think "folding down" replies to a topic would be of any use to a forum. I think the point of a forum would be lost if you could do that.
