Recently finished Prey (2017) - I'd ignored this game since I liked the older Prey well enough but thought this was a cynical reboot. Turns out that's not what it is AT ALL and the title was a dodgy publisher decision. The game was originally intended to be titled Neuroshock, and it's basically if Deux Ex was a horror game in space. Absolutely up my alley.
Anyway the soundtrack was excellent and a nice mix of styles, there's the expected creepy space ambiance but also more synthy bits and standout mopey guitar.
Alex theme is my favorite track but the real standout is Semi Sacred Geometry for having lyrics, being diegetic (that is, the sound actually exists in-universe rather than being layered over it only for the audience to hear) and punctuating a particularly good moment.
For context on that one, basically the space station was developing brain mods that essentially allow you to copy and paste one person's traits into another. For eg a master guitarist, the technology could copy the neurological basis of the guitar skill and then implant it into someone else's brain. For this segment you need samples of a character's voice to break a voice lock and so you're listening to a recording of that character demonstrating implanted musical skill.
The catch is that it's being played over a massive speaker system, alerting all the hostile creatures in the area to your position, and you have to survive an onslaught for the song's duration. It's pretty much the only action game moment in there.
