I guess movie theater security is going to be a thing now. Hope it doesn't get out of control TSA style.

That's retarded.

Batman doesn't kill.

Batman did kill people in the comics and some of the movies. Why people say he never kills anyone is beyond me, just because he doesn't do it all the time doesn't mean he doesn't.

I guess I'm part of the "retarded general public". I'm young and naive enough to accept that; I was at the Avengers premiere, and I rarely go to see major comic book films like this, last time I probably saw a big superhero movie was either Spider Man 3 or Superman Returns. So when I saw all these other fans/nerds dressed up, I was a little taken aback. Sure, there were the less impressive costumes, but some with helmets and Cap shields and Thor capes (unfortunately no Black Widows -_-) and not once did it ever cross my mind that there might be some kind of bizarre, twisted high school graduate behind one of those masks. I didn't think some crazed fan might try and walk in and blow us away.

I can't help but feel a little paranoid at this. It'll probably fade in a few months or a year, once my life's moved forward a bit, and I'll probably look back on this and make demotivational posters about it. But for now... I really don't need to go and pay ten extra bucks to see Batman in IMAX3D. Nor do I have that many friends who are interested in seeing it.

I saw Batman Begins on a DVD I borrowed from a friend, I saw TDK on a DVD I bought for myself, and I might as well see TDKR on a torrent or on a Blu-Ray when it comes out. Complete the trilogy, you know?

Some people are assuming this was done because of of the villains in The Dark Knight Rises.

It sort of fits; Bane's (I haven't seen it yet) trying to accomplish citywide anarchy right? He's committing acts of terrorism, trying to provoke Batman and tear Gotham apart, spreading havoc and paranoia. Yeah, that sounds nerdy, but if the shooter really was interested of the movie and trying to create some form of irony, then horrible as it is to say, then he succeeded in being a murderous asshole. He even rigged his apartment with bombs and somehow managed to survive the ordeal.

Then again, it's probably not that complicated.

There's nothing quick about a guy in body armor and a gas mask. He probably could barely see what he was even shooting at, just shooting randomly from what I hear. Shame someone didn't rush him and take him down.

Can't imagine hoe terrifying that would be. Whenever I hear stories like this I always act out in my head how I would get out or how calm and collected I would be, but in this one, even in my head I know I would have just shit my pants and started crying.

Dark overcrowded theatre, people all around you, then a guy throws tear gas and your vision is even worse. Then you hear gunshots but you can't tell if its from the movie or from a real gun. People that try to run out are getting shot, you'd have no idea if there were more shooters in the crowd or not.

Having all of those weapons in a movie theater without anyone noticing they are real and not fake toy guns is COMPLETELY beyond me.

The one thing that no one has mentioned yet is how this movie has been literally ruined for the survivors by the experience & their families. They might not ever be able to watch this movie again w/o feeling sick or having disturbing flashbacks.......

I'd like to hear the actors & director weigh in on this. Nolan has to be fucking livid that his last movie in the series was ruined by some piece of shit.

You saw the movie. He's in Paris with Catwoman.

I don't know how to feel about this. This isn't like a terrorist attack or a school shooting where the suspects would have a reason, albeit a very disturbing one. This guy just threw a riot for the sake of stirring up trouble. Then when he was taken into custody he boldly announced he had bombs in his apartment, when he could have clammed up and let them go off. And then he has the nerve to liken himself to the Joker. This guy's not evil, he's not villainous. He's an idiot.

When the flight-or-fight response is activated, a person with a gun probably won't be able to fight by shooting his/her gun at the assailant.

There aren't many attempted mass murders that are stopped by armed civilians for a reason, you know.

I agree I don't think it would work either if civilians would carry guns with them in case of situations like this. Aside from what you mentioned, I think it's more likely that the situation will escalate even further if anything. I mean, if more people started shooting I really doubt everyone would be able to tell who are the bad guys and who are the vigilantes anymore. Especially if it's all misty and dark as it was in the cinema and there's mass panic and chaos everywhere.

So yeah, bad idea in my opinion.

Anyway, my condolences as well to any people related to the victims.

I'm personally a huge movie theater goer, about once a week at least. Don't get me wrong, this shooting won't stop me from going to watch the big screen anytime soon...it does however make me stop and think: nothing in this world seems sacred anymore. I've never even given it one thought that I could have died at any time during all those visits to go see a flick. Events like this force a lot of us to remind ourselves that we take a lot for granted in this world, including our lives. It also helps to remind me that, regardless of whatever hardships I'm dealing with now, nothing will hold a candle to those in Aurora right now, or anyone else that has needlessly lost their lives or someone close to them.

As for what the cause of it all was, I think we need to stop and realize that it wasn't the movies that convinced this person to kill. It wasn't our gun laws, or lack of security either. This person was looking to kill, and would have done so regardless of what movie it was, or whether or not security was present, or guns were legal. Once we make up our minds to do something, we do it, am I right? If mankind is anything, we are persistent and dedicated. We dedicate our lives to our success, our failures, our drive or lack thereof. Even a homeless bum living on the streets is considered dedicated, whether they are trying to turn things around and make a better life for themselves, or they wish to continue living in squander. It's truly tragic however when someone decides to dedicate themselves to commit atrocities like James Holmes did.

My thoughts go out to the victims, their friends and family.
