Truly a shame, I watched a number of his flashes and loved them. He will be missed.
Rest in peace, Randy Solem.

Tom all of your posts on the front page show themselves as already visited to me on Google Chrome. (Darker tinted orange text as opposed to the lighter text)
Maybe your posts would be more effectively read if you had a more animated "NEWS" or some sort of tickering exclamation if the post had been made within 24 hours?
Just a heads up.

Is there any information on what happened? Maybe I'm missing something, but there don't seem to be any details anywhere other than the fact that it was sudden.
I'm leaning towards an overdose that the family doesn't want to be public. Can't really blame them if that's the case.

I don't know how to respond to this news.
He was one the most notable authors on the Flash Portal and there's no doubt that his contributions have entertained thousands of people on Newgrounds from all over the world.
To know that one of our greats has ceased to be is very unfortunate news indeed. My condolences for his family and everyone who has looked up to him as an inspiration, surely he will be missed.
What a shame. He was a good man. What a rotten way to die. I wish I had more to say.
Take care of yourself.

Oh man. Randy was an amazing flash artist. It's a shame to see him go, and at such a young age. I heard only the good die young. In this case, it's true.
R.I.P. Randy. God bless.

That is way too saddening. I legitimately enjoyed his works.
My best wishes to him and his family during this hard time, and afterwards.

Oh man... I remember back when the Rise of the MK series started. It was the first BIG thing that I came across on Newgrounds when i first started visiting the site. Shame that legends such as this should die so young. May he Rest in Piece.

I never reviewed or recalled any of his work, but do remember going to his website over a decade ago. Just seeing his site bought back so many memories. A true Newgrounder whose voice will be missed.

Way too early and way too young. Definitely let us know more about donations for his daughter.
Memorial page is great. Hopefully we don't add too many more to it.

I feel that there needs to be a tribute in the form of a Flash movie.
This movie would have the characters from all of the games he parodied (including the villains) coming from their respective worlds, and joining together to pay tribute to Randy Solem.
A final farewell within his digital world...

It was Randy's sprite movies that brought me to Newgrounds in the first place. It is sad to see him go and at a young age as well. If it wasn't for Randy I never would have had the experiences I've had with this amazing website.

Wow, jesus christ. Just as his daughter's walking n talking, I guess it doesn't get much worse than that. Must feel like his wife (or hell, his whole family)'s just had the rug pulled right from under em. That's never gonna smooth over.
Not much I can say that can live up to the weight of that situation.
His first submissions here were in the year 2000, which was 12 years ago. So I guess he was about 24. I never really think of any of us having grown up and started a family- and especially not being dead- but I guess it's been a long enough time. I mean shit, even I must be about 4th or 5th generation, so what do I know?
A lot of what people blog about here is to do with ambitions, and setting up a more comfortable or more exciting life and future for themselves. Most news posts I read are about where people are going and what they're doing, taking big steps and feeling like you've always wasted time. I guess this guy sends a message that people have already lived this life and we're not the first men on the moon here. There's something about that that's really re-assuring and I think it's exactly what a lot of us need to hear.
Whatever you're doing, have fun with it. If you wanna make VGDC.com then go nuts, if you wanna not put out anything for 6 years, don't worry about it. Whether you're 14 or 24, we'll all end up with a house and wife n kids one day. Randy did.
Thanks for keeping a memoriam, Tom.

Wow, I have been coming to Newgrounds since 2005. In 2005 I got a job as a web developer and internet advertiser and all around graphic designer in NYC, one day I was asked to just search the internet to look at what everyone else was doing (real original right), I was also encouraged to look for flash creations and I stumbled on to "rise of the MK" and was blow away! Since that day I would sneak and watch these sprite animations all day long, it seemed like they where personally made for me. I didn't know the site I kept coming to was newgrounds, all i knew was the site with a tank logo had these fucking awesome sprite animations, i didn't know the name of the site, i didn't know you could vote, i never heard of Tom, i didn't know anything about newgrounds except that if i typed Mario in that little yellow search bar the coolest animations i ever seen would pop-up, and "rise of the MK " was the best of them.
I never knew the creators name was Randy.
I judge a lot of submissions on NEOGEO, and I automatically 5/5 anything with Mario Sprites in it because I loved those old sprite animations so much!
