I thought I had finished last night but this morning im not so sure. I'm actually pretty much dead on the 5mins right now, however it feels like it just suddenly stops. I could do with an outro of about 30 seconds just to pull as back down to a softer conclusion.
I know you're not being long winded in your song on purpose, so if you drag it out to 6 minutes, it doesn't matter to me personally, if that's what you need to finish your song's structure. The rule is there to mainly make sure that people don't post 10 minute plus songs etc.
If you don't want to cut the actual song short, you could do what Nick Perrin is thinking of doing...

I'm working on a track currently that is already at the 5 minute mark, and still needs another minute or two to complete the arc of the musical idea...
Ah well, guess I'll finish the track to its full conceptual length, then cut an "abridged" version just for the contest - with the full thing also available for comparison of course.
Nick, same applies here, personally, I think pushing it to the 6 minute mark, but not beyond, is probably okay.
In shorter a contest version (up to but not beyond 5:59) and a longer "full version" is acceptable in my opinion.
HOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU?
Do you think we should allow them extra time?
If most people think that you should go ahead and post the full version of your songs for the contest, then I'll go along with that as well.
