Animators, The Tournament of Flash Artists is in progress and you have until May 12th to submit your entry to the TOFA Open Round. All animators and artists are strongly encouraged to participate in this great tournament; the winner will be a nominee in next year's Tank Awards!
Pico Day winners coming soon.
After some nudging, we've decided to reveal SOME info about the upcoming redesign!
The new site layout is wide, roughly 977 pixels.
Games and movies are now represented with 140x90 thumbnails, instead of 46x46.
We are finally making use of the genre data we've been collecting in recent years. Games and Movies will have a much more robust browsing system, similar to the Art Portal.
The word "Flash" has essentially been removed, so games and movies have the potential to include more than just content made with Flash. For example, if an artist uses After Effects or ToonBoom to complete their animation, they will ultimately be able to submit it as video instead of cramming it into an SWF. This will be an invite-only feature and will happen post-launch. We won't be using it for video blogs and cute cat videos and it should feel pretty seamless when it happens.
Because of these changes, you will notice there is no "Flash Portal" in the nav bar but it does exist as a "Classic Portal" in the subnav. There will still be a judgment phase with blams and saves.
Games and Movies will continue sharing the daily awards but we do intend to split them into their own award categories after launch. Changes to long-standing tradition make me nervous but this one feels like it's been a long time coming (and longer still since it's post-launch).
New features will remain a surprise and a variety of small improvements should be expected. I hope this post prepares everyone for anything that would have been shocking! Discuss.
