I understand Metal perfectly well. I just find most Death Metal boring (unless its Tech or Prog, as of course I love Death, Cynic, Demilich, Necrophagist, etc) and Black Metal probably has the largest bad:good band ratios just because of that whole lo-fi philosophy you get.

And in fact... if you hate black and death... what do you like?

Doom/Sludge/Drone and pretencious Indie music.

Quite funny that you say so. Cause Power Metal guys, most of the time. Along with black metal grims are the douche bags who take themselves the most seriously in metal. Manowar is the biggest piece of fuckin cheese in the world, yet they really think they are awesome.

What has that got to do with whether or not you respect someone for putting effort into their work?
Manowar deserve more respect given the devotion they put into their music.

From Afar is an album to pick up. Infact, I find it to be the album of 2009 surpassing Endgame and Crack the Skye. I'll probably get shit for saying that but that's how much I like From Afar. Another track to look out is The Longest Journey, even though the outro is a bit too long but damn, the rest of the song is still awesome. It's one hell of an album closer.

Well, I will take a look at that when I got get my Electric Wizard album next week !!! Can't fucking wait :)

Not liking, but at least understand the importance of these genres for the whole metal scene.

Death Metal best bands are Tech and Prog. That is not making them un-death metal though. In fact, most of my favorite death metal bands are tech and prog. Just look at my last.fm charts. Still, when people aks me what metal I like. Death metal is always amongs my favorites... Benighted, Blood Red Thone, Blotted Science, Cynic, Cryptopsy, Decapitated, Origin, Panzerchrist, Spawn Of possession... you know...
And yes... black metal as a lot of very bad bands. But as I said before, you do not judge of a style by the worst bands playing it...
And I got used to the bad quality of the recording and in fact, I do understand why it's recorded like that most of the time. Still, you can get some good black metal with good quality recording.

What has that got to do with whether or not you respect someone for putting effort into their work?
Manowar deserve more respect given the devotion they put into their music.

They are not just devoted, they are pretentious self-loving pricks. Also, I always respect people for the effort, still their music is too cheesy and pretentious...
especially for all these patriotic shits they put in their stuff.

i've always been under the impression that Manowar are about as tongue-in-cheek as it gets.

they are fucking badass though, and if they want to take themselves seriously, they should. they hold the record for the longest metal concert.

And shit, I keep forgetting to get Memoria Vetusta II.

Apparently i forget where my bands are from too cause my friend showed be Blut Aus Nord not too long ago, but great band thanks for the recommendation anyway

Dont try and lecture me on Power Metal, kid. Seriously. Lol.

If you think that Children of Bodom's lyrical themes are straight death you are HUGELY mistaken. Many of their songs are based on fantasy. Sure, they do have songs that are just about "Not giving a flying fuck motherfucker if you hate me", but the entire Lake Bodom shit is so power its disgusting.

And no, many power bands dont just focus on fantasy and mythology. Maybe you should listen to more Power other than Blind Guardian and Dragonland. Many deal with relationships, wars, real feelings, politics, thousands of different occupations, etc.

You dont have to talk about fantasy and have a glass breaking falsetto to be power.

I mean, for christs sake, their first album is nothing BUT power. Wtf. :l Like I said earlier to Duff, who actually knows what he's talking about, they are a gray area band. They have many elements of both genres.

But seriously, trying to lecture ME about power. Get that shit out of here nig nog. >:|

Don't get mad dude, we're not kids.

Humm, I agree with the fact that this band is a gray area band. (excelent point)

Finally, can you show me 2-3 bands like CoB that you consider as a extreme power metal band or power metal bands that use a different ''Focus'' who is not based on mythology and fantasy.

Because when you said: '' Maybe you should listen to more Powerother than Blind Guardian and Dragonland.''

I don't listen these two bands.

That is just unacceptable. If they knew more about REAL metal, then it's OK. It's OK to like Slipknot if you know a lot about metal, as most of in here do, correct?

That is how everyone in my school defines metal: Slipknot, BFMV, Avenged Sevenfold, MCR, blah blah blah...if I tell anybody the death metal I listen to they think I'm weird as hell.

Honestly, people have to stop assuming for themselves that all those shit bands aren't real metal, since most of them can't comprehend most of it anyway. I do know what is and what is not metal, therefore I am superior and everyone else sucks.

And back to what people were saying about melodeath, saying it's boring isn't saying much. There are a bunch of different melodeath bands out there that almost sound completely different, so saying that it's boring in general doesn't make much sense. And it's not meant to be very brutal, it's more like "easy listening" compared to other genres.

- Hey dude, I just bought a new Death Metal album!
- Really? What is it?
- It's Nickelback's new album!!!

OH FUCKIN' GREAT !!!

No! These bands aren't metal ok?
Let's just put it that way, Bullet For My Valentine are not shit ok? But they are no metal either!
It's not about being an elitist or whatever, it's about putting apples with apples and bananas with bananas. BFMV are Metalcore ok? Which is a genre of music that take elements from hardcore and hardcore punk, mixed with Melodic Metal elements.

When you go to a fuckin Death Metal show nowadays, it seems that there is always one fuckin retarded deathcore band that needs to come jumping on the stage with their tight jeans, big caps and fucking stretchs in their ears. Most of the time, they end-up being just ignored, people go smoke their blunts during this part of the show, and only the hardcore dancing kids who only came for the core band stay in the middle of the room throwing punches around. And when the actual death metal bands come in, they get pretty much dissapointed because it's too fucking complicated and the vocalist doesn't come out with clean vocals during the cheesy chorus that is always followed by a fuckin breakdown.

You know what? I don't hate core, I have a lot of core bands in my musical library, like All That Remains, Despised Icon, Emmure, Bury Your Dead and all these bands. They are good. FUCKING AWESOME you might say. Guys in here mostly don't like metalcore, so instead of just coming back with the same angry arguments, just do like I did when I joinned the Metal Hell. At first I was dissapointed, but then I realised it didn't matter if they were not metal, cause I could still like them, but avoid discussing them here.

It's not about the real metal. It's about metal PERIOD
Eveyrthing using electric guitars with distortion and screams isn't metal. So Slipknot, even if they did write some decent stuff IMO, are still not metal. Wheter you like them or not.

Okay, so eluding to my upcoming for a band soon, I've now got the setlist to work towards:

Seek & Destroy - Metallica
Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth
Season in the Abyss - Slayer
So what? - Anti Nowhere League
2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden
Whiplash - Metallica
Countess Bathory - Venom
Damn that river - Alice in Chains
Blinded by Fear - At The Gates
Walk - Pantera

They're also working on some other tunes, but I'm working my way through the setlist and hoping to have a crack at this either Thursday or one week from then. There's another guy setting up for it as well, so I've got my work cut out.
