Homebrewed sample libraries! 2010-07-09 19:12:19

hey guises!

So you all know how Mihai has been so awesomely producing his own sample libraries for a while now to give to people for free. After joining our ranks his attitude and giving nature overwhelmed us so much we were inspired to follow suit and we have joined in on his crusade for good free stuff!

For now, all of the samples there are of his own doing [LINK], but there are already 2 packs we have created ourselves that are going up soon, as soon as we can get the artwork and some polishing touches on it.

The real challenge has just begun as we need to start learning how to sample and script the packages properly. Features like round robins took a while to get right and refining our scripts to be more efficient is a fun challenge in of itself.

Anyways, we are getting much more organized about this, and we want your feedback. Let us know what you think and how we can make it better! What you guys want to see done next!

Have a good one.

Ummm... did I ever tell you that you guises ROCK? This is truly amazing. I love you guys... *tears up and sniffles*

What would we like to see done next?

EPIC STRINGS!!!

lol, jk.

Some good drum samples would be great. I've had trouble with those, so much that I had to sample my own (albeit inexpertly). And if I do get around to sampling some more stuff with better equipment, I'll have to remember to send it your way!

Great job Maestro on this one :)

Well... since all are sorohanro packs that we knew of there's not much feedback to give as of right now except there's a bunch of broken images in that link and when did you stop being a human and start just posting press releases for symphony of specters ;)

broken images? There should be no broken images D:? le sigh, i'll take another look. There are some empty placeholder images for pots and bamboo while we finish those up, but other then that I was so sure...

anyways, as for the human comment, i'm totally still human. I bleed oil like everybody else when i'm cut!

hate to double post, but Benjerman, the two packs going up are actually both perc related! Kitchenware kit and a claypot. Might not be what you were looking for but these are pretty cool packs and we were having quite a bit of fun with them!

Not all you knew. Some were carefully remade and there are some new stuff:
Muted trumpet and recorder have now loop points for infinite sustain, almost all have now patches for Yellow Tools Independence Free, taking advantage of their awesome impulse loader (Origami) and filters/eq, some have patches for Kontakt (thanks to Selcuk who spent several nights for this) and more stuff to come.

A choir is planned in the future, with velocity layers and different vowels and attacks.

They're gone but they WERE THERE GOD DAMN IT.

So, anyone tried the Colombian Tiple pack ?
In the mix should sound like this:

This is the Independence version (with their Origami reverb, absolute awesome). Soon will be up also this and hopefully a Kontakt patch.

Hey guys, I'mma kinda a newb here, but this sounds rather interesting.

Sample libraries are literally libraries full of audio samples of instruments recorded by individuals for use in a digital audio workstation. The instruments that could be included is literally undefinable. Because any sound whether natural or created within a program can be included within a sample library. So you could have sample libraries with entire orchestras, choir ensembles, guitars, water droplets, animals growling, and even porn moans. Really, any sound you can think of can be put into a sample library.

People take these libraries and upload them into their digital audio workstation which allows them to write full songs without having to record themselves. One of the most obvious examples is people that write orchestral music here on Newgrounds. None of us can afford to pay a live orchestra to record our music. So we buy sample libraries at a fraction of the cost that allow us to replicate what a live orchestra might sound like if they were playing our music.

And this extends to any and all genres. There are hip hop sample libraries, reggae, orchestral, rock, metal, you name it there are sample libraries out there that cover whatever your needs are as a musician.

Are they as good as the real thing? Not really. But are they an affordable alternative? Damn skippy they are. ;-)

Does that help explain things a bit?

So... I take time to make a choir sample pack, so... gladly after editing 5 male voices I want to share how this will be not only the typical "AAAaaaaa" choir... and what I get.

Thank you !

Yeah, people don't seem to understand the work and effort we're doing here, but whatever screw them. Let the people who see a use and potential use it to their hearts content.

Bump on the fact we released our bongo kit today.

Check out the choir progress. A E and I edited and loop points added for infinite sustain.
Patch for Kontakt by Maestro Rage is almost ready.
My collaboration with Richard Osborn for Mu.Lab patch resulted into this:

I still have to edit O and U but in a week or two will be already available for free download and use.
