Black People and Star Wars 2010-06-10 03:36:36
Alright, first of all, let me lay some fact-bombs down on you.
Unless otherwise stated, this apply only to the orignal trilogy.
FACT: Only six black people appear in all of the original Star Wars trilogy
FACT: Only one of them (Land Calrisian) is named and has more than one line
FACT: No black people appear at all in the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope
FACT: Lando is the only black character to appear in more than one Star Wars movie, the other 5 (three unnamed rebel trooper in the Battle of Endor and an unnamed X-Wing pilot) both only appear in The Return of The Jedi
FACT: While Han Solo is frozen in carbonite, Lando borrows the Millenium Falcon without permission and, at one point, wears Han's fucking clothing. Seriously.
FACT: Of the 5 unnamed black characters, the X-Wing pilot receives only one line, while the 3 black rebel trooper receive none
FACT: However, one of the black troopers (the one that's in the strike force to blow up the power generator) appears in more than one scene, making him the second most seen black character in Star Wars
FACT: All of the black characters fight for the rebel alliance and either serve as high ranking officers or play a key role in important battles
FACT: Although several characters are awarded medals or awards throughout the trilogy, no black characters are shown to receive any (not even Lando
FACT: At least one of all the black characters from Star Wars have confirmed criminal backgrounds
FACT: Of all the slaves shown in the Star Wars trilogy (and this one goes for the prequel trilogy, as well), none are black.
FACT: There are at least as many, or more, overweight fighter pilots as there are black fighter pilots shown flying for the rebel alliance
Discuss what conclusions can be drawn based upon this evidence.
Attached is a compilation of the intergalactic brothers, who are presumably paid less and have latrine duty more often than their white intergalactic counterparts (except the X-Wing guy, I couldn't find him again).
