Response to Contest: Theme Orchestration 2009! 2009-08-16 20:30:43

Ack, no it's not Brit Pop, it's supposed to be Classical. Sorry for the possible confusion

Response to Contest: Theme Orchestration 2009! 2009-08-17 00:34:33

Well shit. Looks like I won't be finishing mine in time. Computer suddenly decided my RAM was a chew toy and now I can't get any songs done. >:c

One day I may finish it and upload it. In which a maximum of 5 people will listen to it and not rate or comment. Woohoo.

Brass Ass.

Ok I think I can make that little box thing now... (if it's just a link then I'm stupid but if it has the title YES I figured it out)

He's not starting judging till the 23rd =/

Response to Contest: Theme Orchestration 2009! 2009-08-18 13:01:33

Yep, sorry I didn't CUT OFF the date like I wanted to.

I'm not accepting any entries from this point on. Though according to my email, it seems all of them were in by the 17th just fine.

The judging system will be fair, I promise that. It will only give minor extra points to those that engineered weel. Since I have a lot of entries that were done just in a scoring program, I had to make that a small factor.

If you have another one of the contests be sure to send a PM my way. I got word of this thing way late and I would have loved to have participated. :)

I'm finally back after Blizzcon. I'll get to this as soon as I can.

I'll post a list of entries as well, just in case someone got missed, which I doubt.

Response to Contest: Theme Orchestration 2009! 2009-08-25 14:45:09

(Wow, sweet. I didn't realize you were going to Blizz con)

Is there going to be honorable mentions or any comments so people who don't get one of the top places still get some idea of how their stacked up? :)

Judging System will be as follows:

Category Descriptions -

Creativity: The overall creativity of the piece and how the melody was adapted. (Score 1 to 10. 10 being the highest) x 10

Orchestration: The instrumentation, counter melodies, chord structure, rhythmic patterns, and changes in feeling and style in the theme. The overall movement within the piece and how the melody is accompanied. Piano solo pieces do count as orchestration as well. (Score 1 to 10. 10 being the highest) x 10

Production Value: The overall sound of the piece. The engineering quality based on the instruments used. The crossfades, volume curves, breath control. Anything to add to the realism of the instruments. Compression, reverb, EQ and master can also add to this score. (Score 1 to 10. 10 being the highest) x 3

The multipliers are there to change the importance of each score.

----

Potention Judges (subject to change)

EchozAurora
Hades
Karco
Bad-Man-Incorporated
Nathan Allen Pinard
Bonnie Anne Pinard (In case you're wondering, this is my mother, and we've been writing music for over a decade. She heard the entires and offered to judge.)

From this point on, all judges will forever be made confidential.
Judges may also add their own comments to each entry if they wish.

The scores and comments are to be made confidential for now. But later we might post the comments for each entry, if the contestant wishes so.

Response to Contest: Theme Orchestration 2009! 2009-08-30 15:45:42

quite the huge contest if I may say so myself :)

Response to Contest: Theme Orchestration 2009! 2009-08-31 02:13:51

True, there are over 30 entires and 5 judges.

I'm holding the names of the judges because some wanted to remain anonymous. But I can tell you there's myself, 2 from NG community, and 2 outside of the community.

All musicians in some shape or form. All various different styles.

Just curious, you say musicians, so are any of the other judges composers/orchestrators like yourself?
