OTG = "Off The Grid"; I drew all the notes and MIDI data in my software without using the grid snap feature.

Bear in mind: This is a work-in-progress submission, not the final piece.

This is a fleshed out version of a theme I've been working on that I plan on incorporating elements of into my final submission for the Newgrounds Video Game Music Challenge, namely the one labeled, "Final Push". This theme is for the location in my fake game called "Timberwood".

Timberwood is a small, quaint town; home of Lonnie and Melanie. It is the starting point of the game.

Here's some background on the game concept I came up with:

In the peaceful small town of Timberwood, a timid boy named Lonnie wakes up one day to find his roommate and only friend is missing. He can’t find her anywhere in town, which also seems to be strangely empty. After looking around town, he heads back to his house and finds a note on the door he didn’t see before with the phrase, “Help me!” written on it, in blood. Startled, Lonnie begins to panic. Then he notices something on the back of the note, with unusual and eerie lettering saying “If you want to see your friend again, Come find me… - Lord Draco”. And so begins Lonnie’s adventure to find those missing from his town, and especially, his childhood friend, Melanie. Being a shy boy who doesn’t speak well with others, Lonnie will have to overcome many trials and fears, meeting enemies as well as future companions. How will he do?

I hope you enjoy! There will be more to come. :)

I like the composition a lot so far! It’s so peaceful — I’m interested in how that might change.

The solo woodwind sounds very dry and raw compared to the strings, which are very wet. Maybe if the woodwind has mic positions, adding more of the hall sound can help. If it’s totally dry, then a good early reflections reverb instance can help.

Codefreq responds:

First, thank you so much for taking the time to review this. I’ll keep your feedback in mind when I do the main submission.

Second, due to the fact that this is not the final submission, coupled with me getting swamped with other things, I didn’t spend as much time mixing and writing as I could have or would have liked.

I’m looking forward to when I will be able to show you my final submission, rather than just WIPs. ;)
