Off The Grid: Death Row Prison Break

Author Comments

Preface: It's the age where royalty ruled all. A criminal has been brought to the Jarl in a nearby castle for a public demonstration/humiliation, after which he is sent to the torture chamber in the local dungeon. Meanwhile, a group of vigilantes are preparing an assault to break the criminal out of the dungeon. Do they succeed? You decide.

I tried to incorporate something of a narrative with this piece and leave it up to the listener to interpret the outcome based on the music they heard.

This piece is what I'd call "off the grid". In the context of writing music, this means that, like all the other pieces I've done, the notes are manually programmed into Cakewalk's Piano Roll midi editor. However, in this case, I programmed the notes in without grid-snapping or vertical grid lines to aid with the writing process, hence the name.

I started it on the 24th of September 2020 and finished writing it the next day. I hope you enjoy! :)

I like how you were expressing a narrative with the track. I always value that really highly in an instrumental work. The orchestration also was not repetitive: things like this too often just become some kind of block chord warhellride and ignore timbre. The rhythmic accentuation in the left hand is also welcome.

Ooh THIS is dope

good stuff dude.
