DEC 2022 - De-essed the hihats because they were really harsh

Trappy instrumental. Product of writer's block. I normally would hesitate to work purely around a sample to start a beat, but I had Cymatics Titan pack laying around. Found Titan Guitar Chord Loop 4. Banged out a hook, found an old template to play the game of conventional song structure, and this is the result.

Snares and kicks are a mix of the massive truckload of samples I've collected over the years and 99 Sounds Drum Machine. Track itself has been left open for some vocals I plan to record later. If somebody wants stems to get your own work in, lemme know. :)

New plugins used:

  • Scheps parallel particle exciter. Super recommend. Quick and easy way to emphasize parts of percussion without EQing it to death.
  • Drip quick and dirty lead/chord processing interface. Also recommend. Cut a lot of time off of my usual workflow.
  • Bass Slapper and Bass Rider (compressor). Yes, that's not a bass sample. It's a VST. Can't beat it for the price. Got some auto-levelling magic in the background with Bass Rider that I also used on the 808. Both from Waves.
  • Cinematic Percussion from Spitfire Audio, aka the cinematic cymbals and shit I've been looking for forever. Worth the money. Pretty varied. Used it here for those grazing crashes and metal tink tonk noises.
  • 808 Bass Module 2. Literally can't screw this one up, long as you actually bother to play with the knobs.
  • Fabfilter C2. I really only felt this was noteworthy for just how easy it is to sidechain nice and clean with this one.
  • Gullfoss. This plugin is a little on the expensive side for me, for what it does, which is intelligent, unintrusive multiband compression if I even understand that correctly. But it's great at bringing out what I actually want to hear with as few knobs as possible. That's a seller for me.

Questions on workflow or method, comments, or critique, lemme know in the reviews. Mixing, mastering, slide into my DMs ;)

for sure this is pre dope

ADR3-N responds:

Thank you UwU

It's awesome when a writer's block ends up at something like this!

ADR3-N responds:

Yeah, crazy. I think the main takeaway from moments like this is if you don't start, you'll never finish. And who knows what you might finish with, so it's worth it!

I forgot I added the instrumental to my favorites. I need to see if I can write up some rhymes or solos :)

Love that slap bass. Background percussion is tight. Loved that 1:57 build up <3

ADR3-N responds:

Be sure to send me when you do. I have the project file. I can just lay you right on in there. :3

the beginning claps sounds kinda weird
but i like the bass slap, the drums, kinda catchy
just... the track overall kinda boring cuz being repetitive

ADR3-N responds:

Yeah that's off a 909 analog kit from 99sounds. I probably could have found something more fitting but I literally shit this out.

I plan to drop some vocals on this later, so leaving some empty space to fill in. Thanks for the review :)
