Track: N/A (Project #223)
2019
I had an idea of trying to do a track about falling into, and then pulling oneself out of depression. I wanted to do it using tempo changes because that appealed to me. As I was trying to translate idea to reality I realized all of my past successes with tempo changes happened organically and trying to do them as a starting point, intentionally, and build something around that was completely different.
Doubt hit me, and so I ran with that too and wanted the ending to translate how even after you may pull yourself out of depression and have a moment of peace doubt may creep in and battle with you.
Like many of my works, this is exploratory and experimental and certainly isn't for everyone. I'm fine with that.
For the niche of people that do like it: welcome aboard or welcome back. I found I enjoyed this project looped as well.
In case anyone was wondering about the title, I did a visual art project about an empty snowfield. Just a barren wasteland, if you will. I was thinking about that and those feelings as I was working on this. It also is winter solstice time so that means it's dark early these days. It's important to take care of ourselves, even if we have to tell ourselves it's just so we can take care of others sometimes.
