The Satree Tunnel Network is a large series of tunnels which reside under parts of Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. These concrete enforced tunnels were originally created as an emergency bunker system in the 1950s. The original plans created by William Satree. The plans had a large scope but only ever saw construction in select regions. The project continued until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 but progress saw an extreme slow down in the late 1960s.
The tunnels themselves aren't all connected and resemble maintenance tunnels more than bunkers. There are very few ways of getting into the bunkers. None of which are legal but these entrances are rarely guarded. The quality of the tunnels vary heavily. Some look like they were built yesterday while some are collapsing. What seems to be consistent is a lack of lighting with a massive amount of water leaks throughout the bunkers.
