This is the track I submit to the "Top 32" stage of the NGADM 2019. It's supposed to be a looped bgm for a fast paced bullet hell game which would loop at ~ 2:05 minutes.

To be honest, I don't have much to say about this theme. It's 200 bpm because I wanted to compose something more "crazy and fast paced" than usual.
Otherwise, I feel empty at the moment; I'll probably post a better description in the future. Or not. Most people don't read them anyways.

Hope you enjoy ~

I like the cutesy sound design and energetic texture here. I think the drums could come through the mix a little stronger, though. The melodic content is nice, and the descending chord line at :29 (and other places) is a really effective way of transitioning between sections here. The synth brass at :39 serves well as a melody instrument, too. The key change at :58 came on rather suddenly, but I like the sense of forward motion the piece has at 1:17. There’s another sudden harmonic shift at 1:37 that didn’t quite work for me, but you definitely hit this piece home with the melodic phrase at 1:46. The abrupt transition at 1:55 also isn’t great, and admittedly the loop idea you laid out in the description sounds a bit forced. Overall, strong work with the melodic content, mixing, mood, and rhythmic content. The piece has a bit of a choppy arrangement and some cheesy sound design, but in a way they both contribute to the character of the track. Keep at it, Pheanir! :)

= THIS IS AN OFFICIAL NGADM REVIEW =

This is based on my own NGADM scoreboard alongside with first impression when I first clicked on your track, which is very important for your new listeners who will listen to your future tracks. For the review, I listened to your track twice to pinpoint a bit more, the scores(points) are from listening only once. Take this review as a grain of salt, please don't take this personally. I don't want to tore anyone down, I want them to become stronger. The judges have different views on your same track, so just take it as another point of view.

*REVIEW*

The most thing I really liked was the melody, I felt I was going back into the older video games console, imagining myself playing some classic arcade games. Although you developed a great theme here, the execution could have been a bit better. Going straight forward with the old 8-bit was quite good (I really liked that key change, btw), but not that interesting and engaging enough to stick around and listen to it again. I felt it could had a lot more instruments there, adding some more interesting synths or sound effects like, for instance, bleeping sounds where you can hear in games. The mixing was overall fine, but could be better, the drums are not very punchy in my opinion, And the mids are slightly heavy, making the mix a bit messy. And the synth itself is bit too warm for a 8-bit music too, but that really depends on what libraries are you using. For emotion wise, I think it could have more dynamics that could somehow lure the listeners into the story, or your theme you're trying to take with.

Oh, and btw, I wouldn't use that fade effect at the end. I would like to see someone end their musical sentence with a bit more clarity.

The mariachi trumpets are a beautiful addition.
Composition is enticing and captivating. Really enjoyed the piece.

As a bit of constructive feedback, I'd advise against a fadeout finish to such an energy packed track, but overall I really enjoyed the listen.

Pheanir responds:

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it ~
Yes, giving my (looping) pieces an actual 'ending' is something I will most likely do in the future. (I just feel a little... weird doing that.)

the comp is nice :) just suggest you to mix it a bit better UwU and maybe add more elements to fill out the spectrum

Pheanir responds:

Yeah, the mixing is my biggest problem; I wrote a huuuge personal blog why this is something I cannot change. Sucks, I know, I hate my music 'cuz of that.
And I kept the number of elements low - after a couple of curious additions and fiddlings - because everything sounded "too full", was overlapping too much or didn't fit in with the main theme.
