Alright, here's my NGADM group stage submission! After like a week of working, maybe about 30 hours total I think, I've got this in a place where I think I'm comfortable with it.

Equipment Used (in order of appearance):
Behringer Model D - Bass (stabs)
Roland JD-800 - Pad
Behringer Neutron - Arp
Roland R8M - Drums
Roland JX-3P - Brass Melody
Roland MKS-50 - Bass/Arp (weird square thingy)
Akai AX-80 - Bass (squelch)
Korg Minilogue XD - Triangle WeeWoo
Arturia MicroFreak - Weird Percussive Bleps
Behringer Deepmind12D - Pad (pitch bend)
Yamaha TX81z - Rapid Pluck Arp

Sequenced in REAPER, lots of automation and the like.

I like the atmosphere at the beginning, but the bass is a little too loud imo. Some of the synths and drum samples, like the pads at :32 and the clap at :38, are a bit cliche. The mix is also a bit wide for my tastes. Generally, drums and other rhythmic components of the texture should be front-and-center in the mix, although transitional material (like the claps at :38) might be an exception to this rule. I’m really liking the groovy bass riff at :55, and I’m really liking the harmonic framework and atmospheric content here overall. That said, there isn’t always a clear sense of direction to the piece, as reinforced by the sudden transition at 1:32. The dreamy section at 1:47 is nice, and I love the cute solo at 2:20. I liked the climax into 3:15 and the tempo automation there. The rhythmic content during the last 1.5 minutes of the piece is really creative, and I like how you slowly bleed out the atmosphere at the end. Overall, there’s a lot of strong compositional work going on here, but the arrangement of the piece could utilize gradual transitions and clear structuring more. I’m still concerned about the balance and centering in the mix, although the production quality is still clear and loud. Overall, solid work, quantumdylan! :)

Love the sound design. In my mind this would be a track that plays at some sort of workshop menu or research station in a game. It has that tech/science feel. I really love when the temo picks up! Good luck with the competition!

Gotta love that: Triangle WeeWoo. Makes that part easy to find tho!

quantumdylan responds:

Hahaha, thanks man! I'm glad you appreciate my brief patch notes lololol.

And I dig that! Sciencey is definitely a good way to describe it, and glad you enjoyed me getting bored and wanting to crank the tempo a bit :D

Interesting sound design, I like it
