I like the hushed atmosphere at the beginning, although the heavy, wet percussion sample at :04 seemed a tad out-of-place. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the clap - it sounded a bit generic, thin, and distracting. I think you could’ve used a stronger transition into :07, even a simple sweep or reverse crash or something. I like the fuller texture at :22, even if the bass was a tad loud. There’s a tad too much reverb in the mix, although it doesn’t negatively affect the quality until about 1:26. The sound here is pretty cool overall, especially with the eerie synth at :51, but the lack of harmonic depth and variety is probably my main concern here. The main riff gets very predictable after a while, to the point that even the minimalist texture at 1:51 is pretty refreshing. The bass at 3:05 sounds a bit harsh in my ears, but I liked the injection of energy at 3:22. You do some great work with the atmosphere and vocal effects in that last section, but unfortunately the rest of the piece doesn’t sound quite as dynamic and refreshing as that last section. The ending also cuts off pretty suddenly, leaving this piece feeling structurally incomplete despite being over 4 minutes long. Overall, nice work with the sound design, balance of the texture, and atmosphere, but I think the composition was seriously underwhelming here. I was looking for a little more harmonic depth and variety than this. Still, you absolutely nailed the quirky mood here. Keep at it, LN! ^_^
