Here's a song I wrote about being an artist vs. indulging one's wicked side. While it isn't actually based on (or even inspired by) Stevenson's novella, I thought they had a thematic parallel — one which I tried to explore in the music: first with a call-and-response between two vocal leads of contrasting demeanor; and then with a bitonality where the song overlaps Bb Phrygian with C# Phrygian.
The kernel for this song came from improvising lyrics over my friend/bandmate's guitar playing. "Dies irae" is briefly interpreted at the beginning by piano, and I may or may not have a kazoo play more of it.
The vox is mine and I sequenced the instruments (piano, drums, bass) in Soundtrap. I feel it could additionally benefit from guitar, trumpet, tambourine, and/or violin. I would like feedback on the overall content and structure of the piece. Thank you.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
