I've had this song sitting around for a while, and I was torn because I really liked it, but the "beta" version had a lot of competing melodies (a habit I'm trying to break). The melody you hear repeating here is the one that survived, so to speak (it's like melody thunderdome! Three melodies enter, only one leaves!). The idea is that the melody repeats, but something new and interesting is supposed to happen each time. Hopefully I didn't break it while trying to fix it.
Anyway! This is the theme of Dr. Eldiel, a mysterious scientist in the novel I'm writing. He's a highly suspicious and shady jerk in general despite having ~Great Knowledge~ of Magiscience (you guessed it, the interaction of magic and science). I wanted a theme that was very dark and heavy and synthesized. The reasoning is kind of plot spoilers (and this song might be A Song To Run Away From Really Fast if you heard it on his introduction), but suffice to say he found some black magic during the 12 years he disappeared for.
My goal is to make a full soundtrack of character and possibly event themes for my novel(s). I'm thinking it'll be a fun project, but maybe I ought to actually write the thing and see if anyone has unexpected thematic changes first, haha...
...Still inordinately fond of this song for some reason.
VSTs include some Nexus, Magical8bitplug, and drums from, uh... some EastWest Play Plugin... oh, apparently it's Ministry of Rock II's drums. Neat. >>
