My entry for ABFH remix contest![4th place] Since this is my first remix I've ever done, I'm not sure if it came out great. I'm sorry Phyrnna and Troisnyx for ruining(Edit: lol jk) your beautiful song...

LYRICS:

Home
Oh I've been gone so long
Felt like forever
And now I see the green fields of home
Long have I roamed
Long have I hoped
to see them standing proudly there
Did I know
how much they would remind me of home

I had left to see the world
beyond what I knew
And now I know no more than back then
Long have I roamed
Long have I dreamed
to have a hero's welcome waiting for me
But I don't need it now
Cause I'm home

Home
Oh I've been gone so long
Felt like forever
And now I see the green fields of home

This is an ABFH remix contest judge's review.

To begin, I'm not sure what to make of the drums kicking in like that without much else to back them up -- the guitar is pretty soft, and so is the voice, so the drums are overpowering. It seems as though the other things in that intro were left as-is.

Then, the synth kicks in, and the voice is retimed so that the swing in it disappears, and it feels quite juicy and nice. It really feels like a groove that I can get down to. When it tones back down at 1:42, it feels so in the pocket, with drums / bass / voice. I also enjoy your chord changes, and the little touches you've added.

2:47~ or thereabouts really sent a chill down my spine, in a very very good way. Mixing was on point, and that reverb was sooooo goood.

That ending is so soft and delicate. I enjoyed that piano. It was a nice way to bring to a close a mix with some really high highs.

Overall, there are so many excellent parts about this. Yet, a couple things to mention: first, I'm not sure if it's flowing as smoothly as it can. That intro is an indicator of that. Second, it does make me wonder if you're playing it safe. No harm in that, I guess -- it's just a thing that I'd wondered.

All the very best for the competition!

ABFH Judge Review/Comment:

There are some nice upbeat parts to contrast the lament of ABFH. House is an interesting genre for a remix based on the source material, but I think it worked out well. It is a bit jarring to go from heavy beat to soft vocal and piano, it would be interesting if you continued experimenting with it a bit (free stems to use, why not go nuts) to maybe see about incorporating the piano a bit more into the house-style bits for a smoother flow.

Good work, keep being awesome!

I had to wait for the remix to come in, thought it was just drums and a synth added in but once the beat drops, this gets pretty damn sick.

Aside from the mixing at the start sounding a bit too much like it was clashing, this is a good remix. I look forward to hearing more tunes from you in the future!

Best of luck in the contest!

Thank you so much! I agree about raw and clashing sounds because I'm still not good at mixing...

SO LIT!!

klru27 responds:

Thank you! <3

Not bad, for sure.
I don't think it ruins it too much! :P
I mean that in a joking way, ofc.
I also think that sometimes the music overpowers the vocals, and drowns them out.
Dunno if that's good or bad, but it is what it is. :)
Like the overall feel though. :)

klru27 responds:

Ok, then I guess it's ok...
Yeah, I think so, too. Maybe I'm going to fix some part before the contest's deadline(idk)
I think electronic music is a bit too strong for the original song, too.
Anyway, Thanks!
