Hey hey :)

Myself and LucidShadowDreamer were working together on the audio for a game for the Darktober Jam. The game wasn't finished by the deadline so we thought we'd submit some songs for the Halloween Spooktacular shenanigans on NG. I composed the piano and Alex performed it and did the sound design and mixing. My first time composing anything Ragtimey so as always, it's my own take on the genre :)

Feel free to download this and use it on any of your projects. Newgrounds' player doesn't loop it perfectly but if you download it, it should work fine. Do credit as [Phoenix Up - "Astral Projections"] as this is the name we now go by when we work in collaboration - and don't forget to share with us and let us know where it's been used if you do use it :)

Happy Halloween!

I'm not an expert in ragtime, but I'd say you got the essence of it very well.

The syncopations which are characteristic of ragtime give the song quite a happy feel, but the chords brrak that with some eerieness. To say it simply, I think the song has a great unsettling feeling.

I love it when you two work together, the result is always great.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I agree that Jordi captured the most important elements of ragtime in this piece, while keeping it simple and to the point. It's actually really fun to play!

I'm glad that people are catching on to the contrast between the more happy and the more eery aspects of the piece.
Thanks for listening once again, and of course, for leaving your thoughts ^____^

Perfect ^-^ <333

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

More your style xD?

I love this! The LH arrangement is just as interesting as the RH arrangement. I think you nailed the theme. I don't know if this was intended, but I feel like there's jolly undertones beneath the eeriness, which is a cool feature! The piano vst is a great choice for this.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Jordi did a great job with the LH arrangement indeed. With the short amount of time it took for him to write the piece, I honestly think I couldn't personally have captured the style as well as he did! :D
Luckily, I made up for it by actually playing the piece instead ;)
The piano is the London Boyd Upright. It's difficult to control, but has a neat sound. Thanks for the review!

P.S. There's definitely some jollyness in the rhythm and the melody, which only adds to the creepiness with this style. Nice catch :)
