Showdown!! [SSS]

EDIT: Moved this to the "Cinematic" genre since Newgrounds still has totally nebulous genre classifications.

Here is the main battle music for the sumo fighting game "Syrup Sumo Showdown" that we worked on at a local game jam this weekend. It was my first game jam, so the experience was pretty new and enjoyable. I wanted to play up the ridiculousness of the game's concept - a fight between sumo-wrestling pancakes - by keeping the music extremely serious about it, while the sound designer made the SFX really goofy. The sound did not, unfortunately, make it into the build at the end due to technical issues, but I had fun making it and the game managed to win the jam regardless!

I may come back to tweak this one if the team revives the project at any point, but I'm satisfied with the result for a 30-hour window event.

Wow!

Love the sounds, rhythm and whooooooa!
I'm positive that it's a top-notch for a game you worked on.
Sumo-wrestling pancakes, lmao. :D

Amazing work overall, no complaints. :)

Deemo-R responds:

Wow man, thanks! Really glad you liked it, and I really appreciate the compliments! All credit goes to my teammates for the ridiculous ideas, lol.

Aaaa, this is brilliant

Deemo-R responds:

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun putting it together in that quick event!

Why are ratings so low? This is awesome! You totally got the vibe down I think. The mixing is pretty solid too. Everything is really clear. From a composition standpoint it's perfect too! Congrats on writing such a solid piece of music! :D

Deemo-R responds:

Urgh, sorry - one of those is my own, lol. I was showing a friend the finished file on my phone and he asked the same thing (sitting at a 1.38 before), so I showed him that I could rate my own submissions and didn't change it afterwards. I'm glad you think it turned out nicely! I've always been pretty self-conscious about how unstructured and disparate my compositions have been in the past, so it's a bit relieving to hear that this one came off well. Thanks so much for the kind words, and I hope to be hearing some more of your work soon as well!

This is phenomenal. The vocals are a nice touch and make it sound much more lively. When I listen to this, I imagine a cutscene in a rpg where the characters all dance. I love the part at 1:20; it makes it feel much more worldly and adventurous.

Deemo-R responds:

I'm really glad you liked it! I do love my RPGs, so I'm totally satisfied with it evoking that sort of sensation - though I'd definitely cut the part that you liked (sorry!) if the team went back to work on the project again, because it just kills the momentum a bit too much. As a fellow fan of the orchestra, it makes me happy that you like how it sounds! :D
