A whole decade and no love? That's a shame. This piece was always special to me.
In terms of composition the piece isn't mindblowing. It's a loop that goes on for two and a half minutes with minor variation. That being said, the basic hook is exceedingly catchy and can certainly get stuck in your head if you're not careful. The secondary guitars that kick in later in the piece are pretty wicked even if they sound a bit strangled overall. The whole musical piece has a charmingly cheesy midi sound that I can't help but smile at. The real reason this song has grown on me over time is the nostalgia I've come to feel for it. During the late 00's this song was my go-to for exploring dungeons, ruins, and caves in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Why this song? I'll be damned if I can tell you off hand, but this was it. Every drum hit is synonymous with a quick heal after a skirmish and every reiteration of the second guitar returns memories of grand treasure. I carried this behavior over to some other games, but Oblivion was where it really became a tradition. Twelve years later and I still appreciate this catchy tune and the memories it brings. Thanks for the rad dungeon crawls, Chrispington. I never found a pair of sunglasses, but my Argonian never took off his blue suede shoes.
