I think you were the only person who made a Jazz song for this contest. Even though I really am not a Jazz fan, I think you did great with re-harmonizing. The panning was a bit off though and the sounds were unbalanced. Other than that great job!

I'm not a fan of the extreme panning but this is a convention of oldies so I'm willing to excuse it for the most part. It literally sounds like I've got my left ear on the bass drum listening to the rest of the track.

I hear what may be phasing between your cymbals occasionally, and I probably would have a lot of trouble trying to play that drum beat. Sounds like I'd need 3 hands from the way you've got your cymbals panned. I can't really tell if you've got 2 rides hitting at the same time and a snare on the same beat -- I'd have to listen a lot closer/slower.

Chord progression and structure-wise, yeah, this is about right for jazz. Could probably use a little stereotypical big brass here and there just so it doesn't feel empty -- and probably a walking bass line on a fretless/cello.

Great arrangement though otherwise. Thanks for coming out to NGRMC!

Very nice. I love the drums. The only issue I have with this is how you panned certain things in an unusual way that makes the song sound unbalanced between my left and right head phone. Usually I expect the kick drum and bass to be pretty much in the center. Here you have them both panned pretty far left. And the cymbals seem to be panned too far right. So the left channel to me seems way too bass heavy in comparison to the right. It makes me feel almost like one of my ears is stopped up somehow. Other than that, this sounds very professional and is a very good remix of the melody and chord progression in my opinion. Good job! :)

When I listen to it, it reminds me of the sallons in western movies. It's a pretty good track and entry. Well done !

The instruments sound pretty clean and your instrument choice is kinda accurate, but I'm not 100% convinced with the composition. Some melodies are repetitive and you can get tired of hearing the same loops over and over if you don't make it variate (you can change notes, or drums pattern, etc. All experiments are up to you)
Still, it's pretty hard (at least for me, so that's what it makes jazz awesome) to make a realistic jazz composition so I'll give you points for that.
Overall, I pretty liked it, great job :D

Poosac responds:

Yes, I agree. This composition was created for a contest where we had to use a melody inside a composition. The melody must be recognizable, that's why it sounds so repetitive at some points. If I didn't have this restraint I would have gone all out.
Thank you for the lovely review! :^)

Next time I'm gonna write a piece that will sound *jazzier* than this one since I had a blast making this one and I will try to make more variations in the drums (Jazzy Drum patterns are so hard!!!)
