This was a piece that started as a short loop. I'd hoped for TMM43 to collaborate with me on this but after not getting a response for a long time, I wound up continuing this on my own

:( Another one, I promise, TMM. This one needed completing.

I sat down, reworked it, wrote lyrics and sang them, and decided to turn this into a Song of the Firefly song. Song of the Firefly is an indie game currently in development hell, for which I wrote another song, Nightfall, back in 2015 and released in 2016.

Funnily enough, when I started this song I wasn't thinking of SOTF at all even if the Kickstarters for it had come and gone, and I'd already been at MCM Comic Con promoting that game at one point. As a point of interest, the lyrics file of this song actually dates back to 16 March 2016. Not sure if the full set of lyrics was written then, but if they were, they seem to be oddly prophetic about my own situation. In the context of SOTF, I'd like a loopable version to be a battle theme, but I'm just dreaming up things at this point.

It may not sound like much, but I consider this song my own De Profundis.

(Those of you who don't know what it means, it means "from the depths," or "out of the depths." It is a lament, based on Psalm 130, and is used in literary parlance to describe a heartfelt cry of appeal, tinged with deep sorrow or anguish. Fitting for my situation for the past goodness-knows-how-many-years.)

If you'd like the details and all that jazz, it's 95 BPM, key variable but starts and ends in G. Not sure what genre this is, but the same Electronic - New Wave designation that I'm using now worked for Nightfall, which belongs in the same collection as this song.

LYRICS:

Sing me a song from Earth's blackest night

When it seems all hope has faded

Sing with your heart and remember your light

That blows the dark away

Sing me a song from Earth's darkest hour

When it seems that nothing matters

Sing, for the light will consume and devour

The clouds of doubt and shame

CHORUS:

Tonight

We rise

Tonight

We fight for who we are

Sing me a song, when all is in ruins

(Sing me a song, when tears start to fall)

When it seems that dreams are dying

Sing through the tears, though hard it may be,

(Sing through the night, though hard it may be,)

And wonders will come to pass

Sing me a song, and reach out to me

With what scant light you can find here

Sing for the end of the world and beyond,

For we will still survive

All I like, except the voicework. Just too much reverb and it muddies otherwise good sounding voice of yours. As singing is big part of the song, it brings the song down for me personally. But under that lies a good song.

Troisnyx responds:

You'll be pleased to know that there is now a definitive version, link in the description!

Absolutely amazing. The vocals were exquisite and the music was dark and slow to match. One of the best tracks I have come across in a long time. Keep up the amazing work.

Troisnyx responds:

Aaa, I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much. ;_; Thank you for listening!

Píosa gleoite álainn atá lán de chaorach.

Troisnyx responds:

Full of sheep? Did you mean to say full of 'meep'?

Go raibh maith agat ❤️ And please let's learn enough Irish to not have to resort to Google Translate hhhh ;;

comparing to the original 50 seconds one and this version : i must say, this is even more chilling and better than the old one, i like it a lot, nice used of synths and ambience, reverb and all.
well not a big fan of that "pew" noises at the end part but that's okay.
now it sounds like a full opening song for any kind of anime.
overall, you sang beautifully.
you should keep it up.
good job.

Troisnyx responds:

Thank you ;A; Oh my, I'm so glad aaaaa

I really like this! The synths are so dark and powerful, and the vocals are so well mixed. I like that there's an actual intention behind the music and lyrics.

The part at about 4 minutes in is a fantastic change up. Please make more music like this, it's an incredibly unique style ^^

Troisnyx responds:

I might do just that -- glad you enjoyed it so! ^_^
