This was a project idea I had dancing around my head for some time now, I wanted a writer friend of mine to do some voice over for an ambient song, he refused to do so but suggested a replacement instead, he had just watched Joaquin Phoenix's movie, Her, and thought that the way Scarlett Johansson's voice sounded could fit nicely into a song.
After procrastinating I finally managed to watch the movie and give it a try at sampling some voices, I was stunned to realize that the film's message is quite bleak, portraying the future as an uninspiring and solitary place were human beings are bound to go to bed looking at their phones,I kind of went astray from the track descripiton here.
Other main element in the song is the human voice samples leading throughout the song, the instrument was built using recordings of single notes sung to a microphone, it took me about two days to get the right recordings. I titled the instrument the "Ahsynth" since the voice samples are always sung using an A letter sound.
The song was conceived as an intro for a trance or psy-trance dj-set, starting with melodic an elements and slowly evolving to a steady beat that could be mixed with a similar style track.
Technical specs? 145 BPM's, produced on Bitwig Studio 1.14 and mastered with Waves Mercury Bundle.
