Happy Easter! No April Fools pranks to be found here. Just music, and that's something I would never joke about.

I felt impelled to make a bit of Synthwave, partly because I've been thinking about it for a while now, and partly because I was inspired by McGorilla42. He's cranked out half a dozen tracks recently, most of which have a decidedly Synthwave-y vibe. Go check 'em out! ...After you listen to this bad boy, that is.

LSD praised this song a lot so I decided to listen to it, and I'm really glad I did! I don't listen to this genre often so it feels very refreshing. I adore the sound design, especially the luscious leads. I have no complaints about any aspect of the piece :)

ChronoNomad responds:

Thank you so much, BlueOceans. That really means a lot, and I feel honored that Lucid's high praise piqued your curiosity! Until McG's recent spate of submissions, I had probably only listened to a handful of Synthwave tracks hereabouts myself, but they all made me want to try my own hand at the genre. Suffice to say, I feel quite validated in the decision.

Luscious leads, you say? Absolutely amazing alliteration, amigo! ^-^

quite nice saws, has that old schooley vibe but well made

ChronoNomad responds:

Thanks, man. Gotta love that old school vibe. The feedback is appreciated, and I'm glad you dig the track.

Oh wow, I love it! These melodies are sooooo catchy, and the sounds and chords you picked create such an amazing atmosphere.

As Gori-chan said, the mix sounds fantastic. I'm really glad you made this, since it was something I needed to listen to today (even though I did not know that before hearing it). I think your affection for game OSTs helped you with the melodies here. It's like a perfect blend between 80s movie soundtracks, and 90s game music :D

Brilliant work!!!

ChronoNomad responds:

Woo! Thanks a bunch, Lucid. This track was incredibly fun to work on, and those catchy melodies and rich chords still give me goosebumps when I listen, which usually happens with other people's work...not so much with my own. Definitely a genre I'll have to revisit from time to time.

Gori-chan? I love it! And I love getting more compliments on the mix since that's something I've really been working on a lot over the years. I'm also really happy to hear that you needed to listen to this, even though you didn't realize it. What an incredibly nice thing to say. Yes, I can absolutely confirm that my love of these styles aided the process considerably. I started right off knowing where I wanted to go and how I wanted to get there, at least in part.

Brilliant review! Very much appreciated, and totally made my day. ^__^

Oh man, this is amazing! I'm really flattered that you mentioned me and I inspired you take make something like this :) Your mix is so clean and tight and all of your sound design is impeccable, and as usual, your piece tells a story without having any words. Each tempo change is like a new chapter. It's great! :D And now I want to know how you made all those juicy synths sound so damn good...

I'm actually writing this on my phone at 5:40am (I listened on headphones, I promise!), so hopefully this review is adequate. I'm actually in the middle of re-mixing and reworking those other songs and trying to learn Ableton so hopefully I can put up another before long.

Thanks again and I can't wait to hear more from you!

ChronoNomad responds:

Many thanks, McG! The review is much appreciated. Of course I gave you a shout out, man. Been loving your recent musical activity, after all.

Really glad to hear that the mix is clean and the sound design is solid, especially since - as always happens with a new genre - one can never quite tell how well something will be received. Tempo changes are just plain fun, and they really seem to enhance the telling of the story. I was sorely tempted to add a key change or two, but ultimately the reprise in the second half ended up being in a slightly different key anyway. Funny how that worked out.

Whew, that's an early morning review! And I'm glad to hear that you were listening on headphones. Always the way to go, unless you've got a really nice speaker setup. Hard to pick out all those subtle nuances on smaller speakers, let alone the laptop or mobile device variety. Especially the bass, and missing out on that would be a shame.

Looking forward to your spruced up tracks! Not to mention your up and coming offerings. I use FL12 for all my stuff, so I don't really know anything about Ableton. Best of luck with the software and stay frosty.
