Too Far

Spent a bunch of time on this after struggling with it for a while. It's one of those songs that I almost ditched a bunch of times because it wasn't working, but it was almost like being unable to walk away from a puzzle that you need to solve, so I did my best. Not sure how great it is, but it was fun figuring out how to make it work.

I've been wanting to incorporate guitars into my synthy stuff for quite a while now, so I managed to do it at last which I'm happy with.

Enjoy! :)

PS. Thanks to LunacyEcho aka Luny for some ideas on how to make it work!

Haha, thanks Johnfn :) Yeah, I'll probably come back to it to sort out the mix. Started working on mixing some of the other songs already so it's definitely on the agenda! :)

I've been pretty busy the past few weeks, so I'm afraid I missed to leave a review on this!
Not that I really plan on reviewing it, I'm afraid xD

Just wanted to drop by and let you know the listen was most enjoyable! I like the incorporation of the guitars, so I think u did good.

McGorilla42 responds:

Hey, LSD :) Thanks for coming back and taking the time to reply! Mixing "real" instruments with softsynths is trickier than I anticipated. I'm pretty happy with the result, but I'll definitely come back to this one at some stage to tweak it.

Cool pensive-sounding synths at the beginning. Has a 80s space documentary vibe. Autotune is really heavy, yet fits the overall vibe of the piece pretty well. The guitar riff at 1:07 sounded a bit too busy rhythmically, and therefore distracted from the vocals. It makes a great riff for a post-chorus, but kinda dominates the texture a bit when it's playing along with the vocals. The lyrics are good, if a tad cliche. I also would've liked a stronger transition into the bit at 2:20 where the instruments re-enter the texture. Still, excellent job with the instrumentation, mixing, and atmosphere. Keep up the good work!

McGorilla42 responds:

Hey, Tainted! :)

Thanks for the review and feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and give some solid criticism. Yeah -- lyrics were definitely hastily written and a bit trite in parts. I'll look at re-working that guitar riff, or thinking of being less rhythmically dominating in future songs, because I overlooked its busyness completely!
