I've learnt a lot in 7 years...
I did this without changing the midi information at all (except 1 note in the flute). This is purely a production upgrade.
I used something I had never used before on this, also - reverse gating. Anything below the threshold is boosted upwards instead of compressed. This made the track a lot louder over all and allowed me to play with dynamics at places by pushing the compressor on the master bus.

Things used:
Native Instruments: Reflektor (drum room reverb), Battery 3 (snare and kick), Studio Drummer (cymbals only), FM8, Massive.
Jubal Flute
EWQL Pianos, woodwinds, some percussion from Stormdrum 2, QL Spaces.
Izotope Alloy 2 and Ozone 5

In depth mixing:
Drums: Snare is 3 samples blended. Left/right 20% plus centre. This is run through a convolution reverb to create depth then a spring reverb to mix it in.
Kick is a single sample but distorted and compressed.

Piano: Some echo, mids reduced to give space to the flute and synths.

Synths: High: High cut around 14khz to remove hiss/harshness. Mids cut to give room for flute. Low cut around 150hz.
Low: High cut from 12khz to remove buzz and hiss. Low frequencies centred, mids widened.

Flute: 2 flutes on key parts - Jubal flute is lower. It has a wonderful breathy sound and so much warmth.

Mastering: I used a reverse gate to boost quiet to loud transitions and push the multiband compressor after it. EQ is mid/side to create width. Some distortion added to add clarity and more width. Stereo treatment added. Maximiser is running only on the louder sections, otherwise it doesn't kick in.

If you want any ideas on one of these aspects, don't hesitate to ask.
I guess I've taken a step back from composition in the past few years. I find myself usually in the production role now and I admit, it is a role I enjoy. Let this speak for itself. If you need help with production or something to be produced for you then let me know.

Reviews

Well I barely understood a word about technical details, but I've listened both original and this version, and I can say that redux version composition is more interesting, and it was more pleasant to listen to)
