LYRICS:
[verse 1]
Fake smile, show your teeth
Show them how you're not really human, yeah
So broken underneath,
Got nothing but contempt for us and, them
[chorus]
And you set fires
And watch them burn with me
And you set fires
And watch them burn with me, they never really loved you did they?
[verse 2]
I guess I'm a little bit crazy,
My words get a little bit hazy
I breathe in, all the smoke that
You could never put out.
All you love are my god damn pills and
Maybe the chase and the feel of a thrill,
But you taught me that, no matter what
I'm only me in those flames
[chorus]
And you set fires
And watch them burn with me (Watch 'em burn, Watch 'em burn)
And you set fires
And watch them burn with me, they never really loved you did they?
[verse 3/Break]
I know, I'm not perfect
Wish you, made it worth it.
I did, all I could do,
But it aint 'nough for you, yeah.
I know, I'm not perfect
Wish you, made it worth it.
I did, all I could do,
But it aint 'nough for you.
So tell me again how you wanna feel something
Tell me again how you wanna be nothing
Give me those eyes that say "hold me tighter"
As you find your solace in the arms of another
We're both crazy, girl, you and I
We're a falling inferno of fire and ice
That can't be stopped, I know it sucks
But everyone else was right.
[chorus]
And you set fires
And watch them burn with me (Watch 'em burn, Watch 'em burn)
And you set fires
And watch them burn with me, they never really loved you did they?

Very poppy, radio friendly. Don't have much critique other than sounds like a little bit of overcompression going on with those instrumental bits of chorus.
The snap in the right ear is also a little bit heavy. The treble and mid are slamming my ears a bit, and I wish the instrumentation didn't sound so... I don't want to say cheap, but like an old Casio with little to no velocity modulation.
Heavy side-chain is a little disjointing at some points for me, and I find myself longing for a bit more transparent bass in the face of those highs. Good song-writing though.
Leads are great. I just don't like the accompaniment so much. Kinda buries it.
You really told a story with this one. The synth at the beginning had a bit too much reverb, though, and didn’t seem quite polished. I like the lyrics, especially during the verses, but I think that intro synth is a tad distracting. Still, it works well for the post-chorus. I also think the chord progression is still cliche and the instrumental as a whole lacks variety. Structurally, the piece is well done, but I also think the ending came on a bit suddenly. It’s not your strongest piece, but let’s put things into perspective: the mixing and mastering are very good as usual, and your vocal performance is one of your strongest IMO. Unfortunately, where you lost a lot of points is for originality. The chord progressions, synths, and even the vocal themes (“fire”) stood out as pretty cliche. Overall, I like this track. It’s catchy, fun, and the vocals (which I recall harshly criticizing in past rounds) are much improved. Keep at it, Steelside. :)
