Imagine a Sonic CD-esque time travel element in Sonic 1 in which you must travel to the past to save the future. This is the good future where Eggman was driven out. The ruins have been restored, augmented by advanced technology. The traps and lava are gone, and the area is now a haven for flora and fauna and a great tourist attraction.
