My submission for the NGADM 2017, round 4. Only eight of us left in the race.

I was working on a different track for this round but didn't really know where to take it, and it was quite ambitious. I didn't have the time to do it justice, so I was considering withdrawing and letting someone use the last day to get a track in and come back into the NGADM. Instead, I decided to start a new song from scratch last minute, and here we are.

You are very talented. I feel the song is not long enough. But; I feel that way with most songs I'm fond of. My imagination ran wild. Thank you for sharing.

etherealwinds responds:

Ahh thank you David :)

I like the warm, rich textures at the beginning. The chord progression is rather interesting. The darker tone the piece develops by :28 attests to that. The intro may have been a bit dragged-out, though. I found myself struggling to identify the direction the piece was heading in until around the 1-minute mark. The harmonic work here is amazing, and the mastering quality is really strong throughout. My main problem with the first 2.5 minutes is that it could use more shape. I’m getting a bit of a sense of climax into 2:30, but I still think you could’ve done more with the dynamics. The mood shift at 2:30 was a bit jarring, but it’s still my favorite part of the piece. I like the percussion and the ominous tone a lot. Still, the structure feels a bit disjointed big-picture. The melodies at 2:37 themselves were enjoyable, but I couldn’t help but think you could do more with the phrasing there. Overall, this piece is clearly excellent. I’ve been nitpicking a lot. Very memorable atmosphere, mood, and sound design. Keep it up, Jordi!

etherealwinds responds:

does that mean i'll never do better? :(

There's a music competition!? I had no idea!! Well, I'm rooting for you to win all the way! Good luck, Ethy!

etherealwinds responds:

Thank you Shads! My last four??? tracks were intended for the NGADM. You can follow the threads on the audio forum and on ChronoNomad's profile :)

It blows me away that you're able to create something like this "last minute". Stunning as always, Jordi! :) Loved hearing the harp -- did you record it? Didn't expect the change around 2:35, but it was great. Your music creates images for me and that's special and not easy to do! Good luck <3

etherealwinds responds:

Well, I did make a start on it on the 9th but then I got bored and went on a night out lol. Came back on the 10th and worked non-stop til about 2am. Dunno where I found the motivation really, it sorta just unfolded as I was working on it. The harp is from a sample library I really enjoy using, Concert Sam Harp?? It's really easy to work with and means I don't have to get out of bed hahaha <3

Good luck to you too Dan!
