The Blind Forest

For the past few weeks I've been hit hard with depression and it's caused me to isolate myself from everything and everyone. It lead to thoughts that weren't so pleasant. One night as I fell asleep I had a dream like no other. I woke up inside an endless forest where beauty stuck my eyes from all corners. The floor of the forest illuminated by the moons rays which brought life to the night. Little orbs began springing to life and flowing around the forest at night. Each orb with a memory and a past. I wasn't alone at all, at that moment I was surrounded by life itself. When I woke up I had inspiration flowing through my veins. I came to terms with what I was feeling and put them all in a song. This song is called the Blind Forest. It represents everything I feel, everything I see, and all that I hear. This is my submission for the NGADM Contest. I didn't have time to add more to it but I do hope you all enjoy it.

I wish the best of luck to all the participants of the NGADM no matter what happens it has been an honor to take part of this event.

Pretty well made beat. The drums feel off to me though. I feel the melody from the drums could have been much more different and complimented everything else in the song.

The beat sounds beautiful though. The flute and synth remind me of some side scrolling games, such an amazing and wonderful audio, I love it. <3

Glad you do!

This is pretty well composed. Really liking the high pitched bell sound at 0:18, really helps add to the forest sound you are trying to achieve.

There was a small amount of under running at 0:50 with the background sound. not a big deal just noticed it.

The lead synth is really good, you use multiple octaves to add a cool video game/fantasy feel to it, I like that.

If I have to criticize anything it would be your snare choice, while not nessesarily bad it feels a little too heavy hitting for this type of track, something somfter might have been better, maybe add some reverb to it too. The kick drum was barely noticable, but I think for a track like this it works well.

overall well composed and mixed, some minor problems but not a big deal.

Teckmo-X responds:

Thank you!

I like the pensive mood at the beginning. The arpeggiated synths and clap sample seemed a little generic, and it was a little slow to develop. I don’t think aspects of the sound design like the heavily panned snare at 1:01 added much to texture - it was very dry and didn’t fit the dreamy mood of the piece well. You also may have gone a little overboard with the reverb on some of the synths. I commend you for using the entire frequency range for much of the piece. The track only really has one climax, and could probably use a little more fleshing out structurally. The ascending synth line at 2:53 makes it sound like you’re leading into another refrain, in fact. Overall, the melodic content is strong, and I enjoyed the atmospheric quality of it. I guess the main thing that bothered me is the sound design - a lot of cliche synths and drum samples, is all. Keep at it, Techmo-X! ;)

Thank you TainteedLogic! I agree with you on that snare there. It felt out of place but that one was a last minute add. Thank you for the review!

I'm afraid that doesn't sound very much like Ambient in my opinion,
but I like the track anyways :)
I hope your dream and working on this track made you feel better, too.
Would you mind if I posted it on Youtube?

Teckmo-X responds:

Thanks. It has restrictions but if you provide a proper link and mention for me then you may use it for youtube.

GG, you definitely won this round and you deserve to. Love it!

Teckmo-X responds:

Thank you Jimmpig! Hey we'll have to wait for the results. I listened to your piece and I loved it too. I love how you incorporate the vocal bits into your music. My favorite one was Rudementia. That had so much flow to it. Regardless I'm actually scared too but whatever happens it was an honor and pleasure going up against you. Best of luck to you too!
