First of all, you nailed the piano. I have said it before, but your skill with chords and melodies is fantastic. I think the kick was slightly too loud though. It didn't really blend well. I also think you could have added more. Like sub bass, hi hats, and pads or soft leads. Still, the piano is close to perfect. 8.5/10 -WR4ITH
Thank you! ;)
I like the somewhat ominous, apprehensive vibe at the beginning. Seems like time’s moving a little too slowly, as if breathing before a significant, stressful event. The kick might’ve had a bit too much treble for my tastes, although I’m really enjoying the progression by around the 1-minute mark. The melodic content doesn’t have a tone of rhythmic variety between 2-measure phrases, giving the piece a bit of a stagnant feel. I also thought you could use some more creative sound design which uses the entire frequency range more effectively. Right now, it’s missing a lot of both low and high frequencies, perhaps worthy of a sub-bass and hi-hats, respectively. The minimalist instrumentation works against the grain of what you’re trying to do with this piece, I think - the piano chords should feel powerful and unwieldy, yet without much reverb or depth of texture, this feels like you simply laid out the harmonies in the piano roll, to be replaced with richer and well-varied instruments later. The composition is very good, but I think you could’ve maximized the emotion of the piece by choosing instruments that could give it more shape and textural variety. You’re showing some clear potential here, but in future rounds a bit more creativity with the sound design is needed to hit this track home. Keep at it, IMPKing6. ;)
Thank you for the nice words. I'll look into it in future songs of mine. ;)
