I made this in FL Studio in about 6 hours. It started with me experimenting with Guitar Rig, and then I developed what I had into a song.

Update: I compressed the track more and made some minor productional and compositional improvements according to LSD's feedback. The updated file is 3:11 minutes as opposed to 3:12 minutes.

The Grandeur - piano
Session Guitarist - guitar
Kontakt Factory Selection - trumpet
Absynth5 - bass and secondary guitar

I like the atmosphere at the beginning. It’s very spacey and mysterious. At around :40, the rhythm gets a little too distorted and complex for me to follow very well. I wasn’t a huge fan of the leads tbh...the pulsing effects on them were a bit cheesy too. The mixing and mastering are good, but I think the composition of this piece is somewhat underwhelming - about 80% of it is just variation of the same simply melody. I was also a little bit thrown off stylistically with the house-like outro. You’ve displayed a good sense of harmony and texture here, but this probably wasn’t the best piece to use for an NGADM audition IMO. You have a lot of other pieces that show off your composition skills better...still, best of luck! Keep at it, BO. ;)

Thanks for the review and for all the scoring and reviewing you have done lately.

I've heard from numerous people that the leads are pretty bad. I changed them multiple times but that didn't seem to help much.

I mostly agree with your comments. I think you may have underrated the melodic development here, but I do believe that the song could benefit from more distinct parts with their own respective melodies that have notable deviations from the foundation of the current melodies. The song could sound more adventurous, and it could drastically be improved by having a more pronounced drop.

haha thanks!

I'm actually not a fan of pop music myself even though I gravitate toward making my compositions upbeat, simplistic, and catchy.

If you want to listen to a pop song that sounds kinda like mine, try listening to "People Like Us" by Kelly Clarkson :)

This is really catchy!
As I mentioned to you, it reminds me of some of your older stuff. I looove that it has that upbeat feel; catchy happy melodies, and a strong rhythmic backing. I especially like 0:44, because it was a bit more unexpected, and quickly brings us back to happytown :D

I think the mix is pretty good in general! The piano has a great sound, but I think it could've done even better with a sustain pedal. But since you didn't play it, it's a bit of a hassle to "program" in (not impossible to do though). It just sounds slightly dry in a way that reverb doesn't tend to fix in quite the same way. But other than that, it's great!

The horns too (sax, or whatever it is), sound neat! At a few points, the notes seem a bit off beat, but in a way, that adds more realism to the feel, I suppose!

Those are only two small nitpicks though, in general I like it all, and it's a pleasure to listen to!

And also, I like those short pauses in the percussion :)
Finally, interesting choice for the ending! I kinda get it though, I think it's growing on me xDD

I agree. It does indeed sound like my music from a couple years ago, but with much better instruments. Another thing I want to note is that having higher quality plugins not only improves production, but it also makes composing easier.

I was aware of this at one point, but I pushed it off for later and forgot :p

Yeah, this was intentional. It seemed like the easiest way to add some realism. After all, I did use the free plugin for the trumpet, so it's not of the highest quality.

Thanks for the nice review! :D
