Electronic - Synthwave

Author Comments

I don't know what to say about this. It started out completely unintentionally and effortlessly and 80% of the work was done in a couple of hours -- the session was called "Synthwave Yolo" with half the tracks labeled something like "Tinkle shit" and "bass lol" ( know this isn't exactly synthwave). However, I started to think it was sounding pretty cool, so I tried /really/ hard to make it sound good...

...I mixed and I mixed and I mixed and edited and edited for many, many hours and nearly uploaded and then mixed more and more and...ugh. I'm at the point where I know it's not perfect, but I learned a lot making it and I really just need to move on. I really struggled with the snare - it always felt way too loud or a little too quiet. I stuck with the latter, but I wish I could get the it sounding fatter. I think I need to explore and find some nice-sounding free samples.

TL;DR. excusesexcusesexcuses. I hope you like it! :)

Thanks to everyone who listened to this a bunch of times to help me with it. @Kalviter listened and sent me some samples which was great, and @Yardood and @Etelik listened and gave me tips and opinions. I appreciate all of you so much! Thanks :)

PS. Not sure which genre this is, so put it as synthwave, even though it's not quite there.

PPS. I uploaded this about 10 different times because it seems very quiet on NG and I was worried I bounced it out weirdly, but I listened to it on my PC and in my DAW and it sounded fine. Maybe it's just my browser, but let me know. *UPDATE* Seems like listening to your stuff in preview mode lowers the level or something. Bit odd.

I like it, sounds like some party at electronic ballroom.

Thanks man :) I hope so too! I have another one I'd like to upload but I need a trusty set of ears to let me know if I need to make any tweaks before doing so. It's up on my Soundcloud currently. Can't wait to hear more from you.

Great entry into the song, sets the vibe and tone. The chords and transitions are very smooth, I envy them :P
I love the melodies that you were able to make, they are a lot more advanced and memorable than a lot of the other audio on this site!
However, you might want to vary the drums a bit more, but that's just my own musical sense, heh.
Overall, this is a great song!

Hey, EspiDev!

Thank you for your review. Pretty simple progression, but I'm glad you like it!

As for the drums - absolutely agree! They're pretty straightforward and repetitive without many variations. I've been listening to more of this sort of music and noted how much of a driving force the drums often are. Coming from a more traditional form of music-making, and by not being a drummer, I tend to overlook some of the complexities and interest that the rhythm section can bring to a piece and instead focus more intensely on harmony and melody, so I'll absolutely work on that!

Thank you again! Keep well :)

The only thing is that it may lead to people thinking it's called Bowser Castle 3, so possibly re name it to something else, otherwise, awesome song!
