I find this piece almost devoid of satisfying melodies, resolutions, and natural structures, and agree almost unanimously with TaintedLogic's review. It sounds very slapdash and lazily thrown together, with the percussion used as transitions, rather than WITH them.
Mixing also needs tending to. The kicks utterly drown the instruments. The bass seems devoid of bass. The lead is very tinny. Sounds like almost every instrument is dry, with no FX. I recommend looking up some basic mixing/mastering tutorials, perhaps some genre specific tutorials as well.
Also, I'd stray far, far away from those kicks and risers you're using over the top of what sounds mostly the same throughout. Props for a flawless loop though!
The instruments are a little cheesy, and the musicality of the synth riff at the beginning is a little hard-to-follow. The piece sounds pretty jarring once the beat comes in at :13. The pacing of the piece is very fast, but there’s very little melodic content in the piece. Also, there’s very little structural coherence. It sounds like a collage of ideas placed on a track in quick succession. You also had a lot of generic transitions in here (the spam-kick at 1:50, the risers at :35 and other places, etc.) that were very overused and lazily implemented. I’d suggest making a piece that’s a little more melody-driven as a starting point. Don’t be afraid of a little repetition - overhauling the texture of your piece every 10 seconds can be pretty jarring to the listener. But that high-pitched synth at the very beginning is not playing a melody. Melodies should be played based on some kind of scale with a well-established tonal center and a varied rhythm. When you think you’ve written a piece with a stronger melody, PM me and I’ll give it a listen. Keep at it, man. ;)
