Entry #2 for the Art Inspired Music Contest.

This one is based on this spooktacular art by Zattdott:

It made me think of some kinda ridiculous and awesome Shovel Knight type of boss battle, so here is my hypothetical soundtrack to that.
This is also high in the running for the most fun Ive had writing a track.

I like the mood at the beginning - it’s cute with a creepy flair. This is an enormously catchy piece with some great melodic content. The instrumentation is also pretty enjoyable. The piece has a great sense of flow, and for a piece that seems so variational, there’s also a fair amount of cohesion. I like the breakdown at 2:12 a lot, too. The piece doesn’t quite get back to the same emotional height as appeared during the first minute, and I also thought the fade-out ending came across as a bit lazy. Still, you clearly put a lot of effort into the sound design here - the vocal samples are great. Very promising work! Keep it up, my friend. ;)

Man I love this track, it sounds like the perfect theme for a Boss who is completely nuts!
It's very catchy and I love the instruments you chose.
Awesome work!

ConnorGrail responds:

Nothing better than a stupidly absurd song for a kooky crazy boss. I appreciate it!

Nice, funny and creepy at the same time )

ConnorGrail responds:

Those are three of my favourite things! Thanks for listening

This is fun to dance to. I agree with EDM though. The trumpets are too whiny, i'd take those out honestly to give the mix breathing room. Too much is crammed in, the song is fine without those. Good job though still.

ConnorGrail responds:

Thanks, I'm a sucker for a bit of the tinny sound but I see where you are coming from! Everything in moderation as they say.

Arrangement of this song is good. Mixing is lacking a lot of punch though. Feels kind of muted, and like everything is sort of laying there with these tweety trumpets and strings over top. Snaps are a bit too loud, and things that should be loud aren't. The accompaniment is louder than the melody, and the snare is dominating the track. Other than that, not too shabby, and I did enjoy the tune quite a bit.

ConnorGrail responds:

Thanks for the solid feedback. This is the type of stuff I like to keep in mind when I'm doing a new mix.
