To my knowledge this is one of two songs I've written in the last ten years with a cow bell in it. I have a love/hate relationship with cowbells.

woah, do i hear some panning there? damn.
anyway, i think the vocals at the start could use some reeverb/delay
there also could be some sidechain
the end could probably be a little better if there was a lowpass filter, y'know, just to make it fade out, instead of the volume thing.
there's probably more stuff to critique but i can't really wrap my head around it right now.

other than that, pretty nice song! sounds somewhat experimental, maybe just because its not the usual stuff that i listen to, but yeah, thats about it!

Quarl responds:

lol, thanks for the review but if you could see my virtual rack, you'd understand that almost everything gets side chained. Not super hard mind you, I don't like when the envelope on my drum kit over powers everything around it. Usually, I'll lightly sidechain a little bit of everything, with a heavier sidechain on the sub.

cowbell is god tier percussion and shall inspire all for eternity.

nice song this sounds crazy harmonic and moody

Quarl responds:

no u

It takes a seriously cool woman to toss cowbell into a song, although at first I had trouble detecting it and was about to go all Christopher Walken on ya. This track is super fun in many ways and I know for sure I'll be giving it repeat listens!

Quarl responds:

Aws, thanks BwE. I was listening to Absent Tree Star earlier today but couldn't finish a proper review because I kept getting to the end like "damn it... what's this awkward ending?" The track was super potent, keep going with it :D

The words you wrote moved me though. My mom commit suicide a number of years ago. I'm still very fortunate that my dad is a huge positive force in my life. I'm sorry it sounded to me like your on your own at the moment? I'm sure you have friends and others that are filling the void. Right? I hope you're ok. Details worry me. Thanks for the feedback Bwe!

edit: wasn't aware you were 32. Regardless, I hope life is treating you well. It's not fair when life takes anyone down a peg. I'm sorry about your dad.

Only got to listen to this now. Enjoyed the **** out of it, but I don't have the time to write a better review (working on some school stuff, and it's almost 6am = I am not a smart person).

Also, lol at the reviewer below me. I'm honestly impressed by your response!

Quarl responds:

OG audio portal, that's the kind of response that would have got me zero bombed for the next two weeks.

I don't mind friendly "hi-five" reviews like yours. Hell, even low scoring crits are ok. I might come off a little pissy in my response but you gotta deal with the haters eventually and everyone is entitled to an opinion under the circumstance that they have one in the first place. Haters are just misunderstood.

good luck with that thesis you may or may not be working on right now o.O

Quarl responds:

This kind of post would fit in with the audio advertisements thread:

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/253861/998

Asking someone for a review in a spot typically reserved for a review without leaving the review is kind of lame. Usually when you ask someone for a review it helps if you leave them a review too. I try to get back to the people that leave me good reviews. I'm not perfect but I will always try to respond to someone, especially if asked to do so in a private message.

I can't scout you simply because I'm not super comfortable with Soundation. I played with it for a few minutes, seemed like a pretty cool online application for experimenting with introductory level audio production but I can already sense a few limitations within the workstation. I can easily see how this program could be abused much in the same way Garageband was.

Fyi, I'm an ex newgrounds audio moderator. Gave it up after college because I had to focus on the real world for a while. Someone else might scout you, I didn't notice any red flags on the track that made me say "oh this is just a bunch of pre-made loops thrown together with little effort." Truthfully, your track sounded like anything a new audio producer might whip up their first time using a professional studio like FL, Reason, or Protools. I'm just not willing to be the person that waves you into the system.

Good luck Gem. Peg people in the audio forum, check out that advertisement thread I just linked to, and try leaving other people well thought out reviews before just asking for a handout. I can promise you there are some cool people in the audio portal that would love to help you out.
