There was a delay while I was waiting for the Skytrain, apparently there was a computer problem and the trains were offline for about an hour or two. There was a man who appeared to have fetal alcohol syndrome or some form of autism who made random outbursts throughout the wait. I decided to record him for a couple of minutes to use for a sound collage. What ended up happening is that I would record for a few minutes, stop recording, then record a few minutes later until I had close to half an hour of audio.
What's interesting is that near the beginning the man was focused on Taco Tuesday and would repeatedly mention Taco Tuesday as well as bingo. Later, as he continued waiting for the train he mentioned Taco Tuesday a lot less and mentioned bingo a lot more, growing more agitated as he did and mentioning how he hoped that he wouldn't miss bingo. I actually thought that he was referring to a pet when he said "I miss bingo," but at certain points he would mention his friends who he would meet while playing bingo, and mentions that he'll play his own game of bingo if he misses bingo.
On a side note, we got off at the same stop, so I watched him run out of the station to the local YMCA. The weird thing is that the YMCA was about a 20 minute walk from the station. I think that he realized this as well, as he repeatedly ran towards the train station exit to presumably walk to the YMCA, then he would run back to the train platform and continue waiting.
The last nine minutes were recorded with my phone in my pocket while I took a little nap on the train. Every once in a while he would start running through the train and jumping up and down, which shook the train. There was a Skytrain supervisor standing outside the train, which was stopped at the time. So, he would repeatedly run to the opened doors of the train and yell at the employees.
I would recommend listening to this. There are some things that I didn't record, but it's interesting how much information he reveals by simply standing around vocalizing every thought in his mind. He reveals the names of his friends, he mentions a girl who he likes and how much he dislikes the guy who she is dating because he wanted to date her. He also yells quotes from cartoons, anime, and games.
Interestingly, he also displays a trait that i've seen another person with fetal alcohol syndrome display. Repeating the same insult used by another person repeatedly. This took a dark turn when it appeared as though the person was having a conversation with himself, which went something like this:
"I'm a slacker, i'm impatient, i'm powerless."
"You're a baby, nobody likes you."
"I'm a baby, i'm a big baby."
Yeah, it was an interesting time. But, I got a decent field recording out of it. I just wish that I had some better equipment with me to record, and that there was less construction going on.
