EDIT: Just made it downloadable via a request from a game developer 09/08/2016.
I was aiming for a melodic death metal feel, here. Enjoy!

I can see why this is your best of 2016. Fast, frenetic, and driving. Only thing that brought me back to earth was the harmonic progression at 1:11. Top note sounds ... strange. I'd have written it a semitone higher. What I wouldn't give for the midi file off this one!

JK-FlipFlop responds:

Thank you for the review. Glad to see you checking out my stuff. Midi file headed you way tonight.

So many vibes from this song! Question what game is it supposed to be in because I'd get the game just to hear this song in there! You made a great retro death metal that really worked well. From begining to the end it was just made to be used for a game, keep it up :)

JK-FlipFlop responds:

Thank you!
Honestly, I was trying to make this an "Act 2" for Rusty Desert Zone (which probably fits a lava level better), and this would be like an "escape from the whatever" type of thing. Kinda like Power Plant Zone Act 3 in that Sonic hack where you escape from fire.
Thanks for checking out my music.

Awesome! how did you make this?

JK-FlipFlop responds:

Mixcraft, VOPM, ProtoPSG, Megadrive drum samples and a few hours of work.

You always make the best songs

JK-FlipFlop responds:

Thanks, you're too kind.

This seriously reminds me of Fatal Fury and Cool Spot!
Can't forget Comix Zone and Air Wolf!

Well Done!
Oh...maybe you should go about remixing Sonic 1's SBZ from the mega drive :P
You could even do a few other tweaks and slides ;-)
Audacity can be a bit tricky to get the sounds just right with some of those game's tracks to be honest...hell..maybe you should remix some of the Sega CD's Silpheed tracks as well in this format, especially stage 1 and 8 ^_^

Thank you very much for your review.
I was actually aiming for those darker VGMs when I played this on the piano. But I also wanted to emulate the style of melodic death metal. Listen to Cathode Ray Sunshine by Dark Tranquility and Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth and you'll see where I'm coming from.
As for the soundtracks you mentioned, I can't say I'm familiar with any games on SEGA CD, except maybe Sonic CD, which I'm not particularly fond of, though a couple of tracks stand out. I'll check it out, though.
