I made this song for the Art Inspired Music Contest (A.I.M. 2016). The artwork that inspired me to write this song was made by carrion. He's an amazing artist and you should all follow him!

This was lying around for months, I think I started this in early May? (EDIT: Nope! I started this on the 25th of May.) I got a little stuck on where to go next but picked it back up today and decided to finish it once and for all. I threw a ring-modulator on the master track and then composed a climax which I feel is on the simple side... It ends rather abruptly too... Oh well! The compression is a bit heavy on this one. Maybe I also focused too much on creating an ambience and too little on an actual composition, but personally I really like it this way. I'm taken on a journey whenever I listen to it. A rather short one, that is.

Most of the sounds here were made with Quantum64, it's one of the new VST's I've been trying out lately and as you can probably hear, it's quite awesome. The interface looks pretty cool too. Definitely a new favorite and recommendation!

EDIT: I applied a repeater on the master, somewhere in the climax. It seemed appropriate.

So...you're saying this was a track you started before the contest? Well....thats against the rules....sigh.....it's a real shame, because this is a great piece, but you're supposed to start from scratch for the contest. Sorry dude :( just a rule to make things fair for everyone.

I'll still review this though. The atmosphere is really appropriate for the picture, brings it to life. It's a bit simplistic but reminds me of simpler times in the gaming community. My only real complaint is that this song is mostly sound over melody, needs to be playing more, more often. It's really repetitive with the melody. Could have used more in that department. But the sound work, the glitchy effect to it, and the atmosphere, is really great.

I really wish this could be in the competition, but i guess you didn't go over all the rules :( and I feel bad i've had to do this in past years too because I want to make things fair for everyone to start at the same time. But still good job on this piece and I'm glad you made it.

Whirlguy responds:

Wait, please don't rule me out just yet! I winged my estimation for the starting date when I should have been more specific and looked it up. You posted the thread on the 22nd of May right? If that is what you mean with the starting date, I can proof to you that I started this project a few days later:

These are the properties of the file, if this doesn't convince you I can send the actual file to you in a private message, so you can check out the time stamps for yourself.

All this inconvenience aside, I completely agree with all the flaws and I'm really stoked to hear you've enjoyed this song for what it was. Hopefully I'm still in the competition :)
