Easy Listening - Jazz

Author Comments

This is my entry for Seprix's Fun Times Audio Contest.

There's a lot going on here, so where do I begin?

With this contest, I took advantage of the opportunity to experiment with some new mixing techniques, (including top down mixing and heavy busing in order to reduce the strain on my system.)

I definitely rushed through tracking; and spent most of my time mixing. But hey; I'm a mixing engineer so, it's in my fucking blood. Yes; there are a few minor timing issues, but no; I don't care. Leave the mistakes... leave the human element. Antiseptic, squeaky clean tracks are boring.

Programs used:
FL Studio (for initial drum sequencing)
Image-Line Parametric EQ2 (for EQ obviously)
Image-Line Multiband compressor (for that pesky trumpet)
Kontact 5 (Piano, Strings, Trumpet)
Ableton Live 9 (DAW)
Ableton stock noise gate (For kick and toms)
Ableton stock stereo delay (For sex)
Ableton stock "Classical Compression" (Again, for kick)

Jazz with a funny theme was a great idea. Silly enough to enjoy and make you smile.

I cannot take this song seriously. That probably was the point. So many silly toms and trumpets that are off (which is fine) with weird pitch bends. It's like a dream circus! I will say though, that stereo delay was so very sexy.
