This is a work in progress track made for an upcoming animated short by a couple extremely talented artists, keepwalking and HowardWimshurst. The task was to create a track that signified a dream, where a fight takes place. That's all I'll say because anymore would spoil things for when the short is released lol. Let me know what you think!

I love the atmosphere at the beginning. The piano gets a little indistinct at times under the vocals, but I’m not sure if that’s a mastering issue or if you simply used too much wet reverb or turned down the volume levels too low. There was a pretty sudden mood change at :30. You tried to connect :30 with the preceding section with those Nordic-sounding strings at :28, but there’s definitely still a visible seam there. I like the percussion at :30 and the sense of climax as the piece moves forward. The harmonies between the cello and flute are also very pleasant. Unfortunately, this isn’t a structurally complete piece, and it ends very suddenly. You have the first intro-buildup-refrain cycle of a longer piece here, but I think you needed another cycle in order to give the piece some sense of ebb and flow. The emotional levels of the piece over time can be expressed as one big X^2 function, which simply isn’t the most effective way to channel the energy. I wanted to hear a heartfelt breakdown that tugged at my emotions before a final climax. Perhaps I have very specific structural expectations, but fleshing out this piece more while keeping it coherent (and adding some variation during the yet-to-be-unveiled 2nd half) will almost definitely help maximize the drama. Overall, though, I enjoyed this piece. It’s well-mastered and climactic. You used a lot more phrasing than the typical competitor - that’s for sure. Solid work! Keep at it, man. ;)

Thanks for the great review, greatly appreciated! I will definitely take the advice, all of which made great sense :) quick note about that ending, because I don't like it either haha, but it was actually a score that was written for a short and the director wanted a very abrupt cut at the end to signify a girl waking up out of a nightmare. So while I totally agree, I had my hands tied a bit there haha...as well as the time I was allowed which was a minute and a half. I'll definitely let it rip for the NGAUC though :)

That's really awesome, I love the drums and that flute melody. It reminds me of an rpg from the early days of the psx

Its epic....short and sweet works good for a nice short film probably all in all good score just cuts off too abruptly

TheGoatee responds:

Thanks! Yeah the end does cut off sharp, but I was supposed to haha. The character in question is going to wake up abruptly from the dream so in context with the animation it will make much more sense :)
