I finally finished an actual song using an actual DAW, Ableton Live! I the instruments, mixing and sound design are abysmal, but I still hae a LOT to learn about this DAW, and music production in general.

I'm not really a dog person, I just chose the name because it sounds cool.

Any suggestions on how I could actually start making GOOD music? Comment down below! I appreciate constructive criticism, but please no hate or put-downs. I already know this is bad, I want to know how to make it better.

Hey, Ableton is a hard DAW to learn so I'll cut you some slack. Here are some tips.
-Have more separate melodies and chords. Don't just have a bunch of instruments playing the same tune.
-Try and fine tune your sounds. You know those funny little dial things when you select your instrument and put it into a track? Mess with those until you get a better sound.
-You were a little out of time, try changing the BPM in the top right.

Wow, thanks so much! I've been trying to play with sound effects in my songs recently, but nothing I come up with seems to sound good. Do you have any suggestions as to what types of effects sound good with different instruments? You can PM me or message me on Skype.
As for the separate melodies and chords, I sometimes have trouble with that, thanks D: I'll work on that.
And the time. Whenever I try to create a song straight from my imagination it's always on a strange BPM that I have to tap out using the handy tap option for the BPM slider-thing. Unfortunately due to a combination of human error and an old computer it always comes out as this really weird decimal and I have slight OCD so I always change round it to the nearest multiple of 5 or something. Maybe I should even stop doing that, thanks for the tip.
