A theory driven song with a broken lead and trip-hop drums.

Shingles (the song shingles) was named Shingles since I have had Shingles when making this song. shingles suck, not the song Shingles, but the shingle shingles. Not the roof shingles either, but the shingle shingles which are the shingles that are found in and on the body known as shingles. No confusion there.

How it was made:

Shingles is a track that is more guitar and theory driven than other songs I have made. I used FL-studio as the DAW but really created the song on guitar first, in the key of a#m and used a progression that I could play in time with a classical finger picking style. Both on acoustic classical guitar and a Jackson electric. I used two pedals for the electric. They are a mini pedal "yellow fall" delay pedal and a Lyon chorus pedal which I used to just give it an out of tune sound. I played the guitar and copied it and bumped it an octave and lowed the higher octave guitar's volume. This allowed for a fuller sound. The drums go under a filter to make it compressed and I used a lot of tru-verb. The begining has a little synth made in massive and the bassline is a synth as well.

Wow.. I feel like I can lose myself while listening to this... I love the echo of the guitar and the pop of the percussion.

I like the 'emptiness' with this one, the effects you added to percussion worked well to go with that as well. Btw, when you have the backwards guitar strumming, do you play that entire section with the notes in reverse order, then reverse the recording or do you play the notes, section that out and reverse them individually?

I'll likely play with some of your tracks at some point cause this shit's cool.

For this track in particular I i played them normal then cut them and re-arranged the notes to the way I liked it. For this track I didn't really focus on that aspect as much so most of it was just either played forwards and or reversed and left in the order.

Best way I found is to play them backwards and then reverse them, but sometimes it sounds nice to get that tail cut off by slicing and rearranging them.

If you want I can send you a zip of all the audio clips for a song that you want to mess with. Most of my songs are just audio clips since I record everything, then add effects and record again.
