This one was actually really surprising to me. I mean, I hadn't really thought about what the song meant until I looked up the lyrics, and they are a coherent story of a man in a prison cell, looking at a picture of his lover, slowly going insane from boredom and loneliness. "Turning Japanese" has nothing to do with race, but rather is a metaphor for turning into something one is clearly not, losing one's mind.
From the lyrics: "I've got your picture, I'd like a million of you all 'round my cell..."
This was a sad song when it was written, I think. So here it is, as I imagine the person who wrote it was intending, before it turned totally upbeat ska...Don't hate on me for posting it under 'ska,' because that was the original genre.
